Wrapped the Pipe....
« on: July 16, 2023, 08:40:50 PM »
Well, since I had the unit torn down for the valve check... I decided to deal with the "Heat Issue".

For background, I use to race Enduro Motorcycles and I would always wrap my pipe, to avoid excess heat and getting burned on a 'get off'.  So I had some exhaust wrap left in the garage that I decided to use on the CForce.....

I'll report back on the effectiveness.  Hopefully it will eliminate that under seat heat we all deal with....

It's summertime here in Spain and hot so I ride in shorts and T-shirt.
The heat that comes from the right side burns my leg to a deep pink. It's so intense that I try and ride with my right leg on the far edge of the footplate.
My wife commented on the hot air blowing on her open-toed sandals when she was on the back.
The heat from the seat means a damp behind when I get off.

If there's anyway to shield these areas I would like to hear it.

Did a 4 hour ride today with my younger brother, as he is visiting from Texas to get out of the heat.  Boy did we disappoint him today, as our area hit 100-107 F today....

But wow it was a good time to test the newly wrapped pipe.

Despite the ambient temperature, the heat coming from the pipe from under the seat and the plastics was drastically reduced.

Yep....  It did what I wanted it to do.

Looks like that wrap comes in different temperature ratings, which one did you use?

I can't answer that ......  I purchased a full coil of wrap from my buddy that is a Fabricator for desert racing Trophy Trucks...  They use the wrap on all the pipes.

Rode for 5 hours today... up at high elevation and only felt some heat when doing the nasty assents.  I think I need to wrap the header of the front cylinder... to eliminate that heat.

The rad fan plays a big role too. When it kicks in it burns my feet.

I'll try wrapping the front header( which is naked as opposed to the rest of the exhaust pipe which has heat shields)

Riding 2-up, slow in 4x4 Low a lot yesterday, the rig got hot.... 5-6 bars on the temp meter.

I had a lot of heat coming up in the driver 'box'.  The wife never reported a heat issue.

I haven't wrapped the headers and first 16" of the pipes, so they are next on the list.

Is it a big deal to remove the plastic to get to the pipes? And I would think to do a good ji5b you would have to take the pipes and heat shields off correct?
Thanks

It is actually easy to get under the TupperWare....   And then the heat shielding is easy to un-screw and access the pipe.
