Hello everyone!

I have two 2024 1000 ATVs that are in dire need of suspension adjustments.

We ride on a trail system that has quite a bit of stutter/chatter bumps.  They are not very big at all - maybe 2-5" - high, but it is not pleasant to ride.  The machine rides great going 37+ as it skips over the top of them.  This is fine going straight but you cannot maintain 37+ the whole time.  It gets much worse as you slow down and 20mph is almost unbearable.  I can feel my muscles bouncing off my bones.  My dad usually pulls off the trail and drives down the gravel roads at this point.  Something needs to change.

Now, I know absolutely nothing about suspension.  It has the dampen adjustment on the top, rebound on the bottom, and then the spring adjustment.  I tried turning the dampening adjustment soft but it didn't do much.  Hell, I could have spun it the wrong way and put it hard.  Even then, there wasn't a noticeable difference.

There is no fear of bottoming out.  I just want the suspension to do as much as it can.  I weigh 160 lbs.

Any guidance would be appreciated.  Which way do I turn the dials for rebound and dampening?  I know they are labeled but like I said, I know nothing.  How should I adjust the suspension springs - screw them out?

Thank you,
Matt.

Here we call that "wash-boarding" and it's hard to deal with any shock, especially one with a single-rate compression. Think about a set of dual-rate Elkas which not only have a dual-rate high and low speed compression adjustment, but also have a dual rate spring. In the meantime for CFM shocks I have a write-up on setting the ZForce shocks which also applies to the ATVs. Basically set the preload on the springs as needed for the weight and level ride height, then the compressions (top valve) all the way open then shut one or two clicks, then rebounds(bottom) shut or to the Slow then open two or so clicks depending on the number of divisions on both.

Might also check with Bandit Suspension on shocks as well.

Thanks for the response!

I just got a "no ride" recall about the throttle today so it looks like I have some time to think about it.  The only "good" part about this is I have can the dealer soften them up for me and hope for the best.

I have looked at Elka shocks too.  They are expensive which is okay as long as they make a decent improvement.  I would have high expectations which would likely lead to disappointment.

Well people that ride a lot...don't even give Elka a second thought. Some order them and have the dealership install them before even taking delivery of their machine. "Weekend Worriers"...not so much. The cost just isn't justified.
