EPS quits with front diff lock engaged
« on: July 16, 2023, 02:05:46 PM »
Hello all,
Quick question, cforce 1000 2023 (EU):
When the front diff is locked i lose most (if not all) of the power steering range when in a standstill.
Sometimes i can turn the the wheels a little bit (just a tad of the full range), other times there is no power steering at all.

Imagine being stuck somewhere nasty and having no way to turn the front wheels but to brute force it, and even then it might not be possible.
Can reproduce it in my garage, just lock everything, eps just quits or moves the wheels just a tiny bit.

On all of my previous canams eps worked all the time, everytime.

Normal 4wd eps works as expected, full range of motion.
Lock the front diff and the eps is gimped.

No faults or mils on the dash. Is this normal on cfmotos?

Any way to have eps functioning all the time, everytime?
Someone on fb replied that cutting a wire to ecu (similar to low gear speed limiter bypass) allows eps to function everytime, although hes not sure which wire it is.
Any input?

Thanks.

1000 Overland 2023(EU)
I noticed this exact thing the other day.
4WD plus diff lock and I couldn't move the steering.
Took the diff lock off and everything fine.
I hardly ever use the diff lock and just put it down to one of those things, but now I wonder...

I use diff lock all the time, having no pwer steering sucks.
Apparently if you pull a wire from the ecu, eps will be at 100% all the time. Now that's not good, having eps 100% power at speed might cause the machine to flip, or excessive use while on diff lock might wear the eps motor out.
I plan on putting a switch on the wire, when i need eps at 100% for a brief time, (stuck while in diff lock mode) flip the switch turn the wheels. Also i plan to have a push and release type of switch like the override one. In fact i might repurpose the override switch.

In diff lock our steering will be difficult it's only for straight going basically
My overland power steering has quit all together

Hi. I'm also trying to solve a problem like this. How did you solve it?
