Code P0118
« on: October 27, 2022, 03:33:42 PM »
Hello. I have encountered an issue with my CFORCE 1000 overland.  I went in to clean all the connectors that I could get my hands to and applied dielectric grease to those connections as well. After each application of dielectric grease, I plugged the connections back in and cranked it to ensure that there was no lose in current connectivity.

This morning when I came out to restart my machine, the coolant fan came immediately on and the bike popped a P0118. My suspicion was that maybe I applied too much grease on a connector somewhere, so I disconnected and cleaned each connector with brake cleaner.

I started the bike again and there was no change. The fan starts running 10 seconds or so after it's running, but the temperature does not go up. The machine engine is also only warm to the touch after about 5 minutes of idling.

Has anyone experienced this problem with applying dielectric grease or has my cleaning actually uncovered a problem that was masked somehow? I talked with a dealer and will be taking the machine in next week but just curious if anyone has run into an issue with the coolant temperature sensor?

More issues come about from using dielectric grease...especially on low voltage systems then from water intrusion. It is never to be used on the mechanical connection itself, only around the outside to..try to prevent water intrusion. There has also been some documented instances where when applied to round-pin systems, the hydraulic pressure created from putting the connector back together spreads the female side causing an open connection. Look for anything like that. Better to use nothing in the connector and go over the outside with a paper-thin coating of clear electrical grade RTV. Hopefully the ECU isn't damaged. If it were mine I would go back through all I did and flush them clear with spray contact cleaner. Then inspect all the female sides very closely on all..not just the ones with round connectors.
