That is waaay too pretty a ride to take out and scratch it up. I'm always glad that I bought used and don't have to worry about a scratch or dent on my plastic when I go for a ride. They probably have a good 6-7k tied up in accessories in that thing as it stands.

Yeah that's my way of thinking too. It's only going to be showroom shape once and if you get too picky what you do or where you go, trying to maintain that brand new look forever, then you'll be limited where you can go and you'll still be heartbroken at some time when that first scratch appears. 

Me for instance, on a trip to Utah's Paiute Trails there were several 50" and less (!) gateways, like this one.

While the 800 Trail measures exactly 50" to the outsides of the tires the shoulder bars actually measure 51.5" at the widest place and the addition of the CF Moto half doors makes the widest measurement 53"
It scrubbed pretty good on most of the gates, and this one above wasn't the tightest. I rubbed off some paint, and though I'm not 100% pleased, still I don't regret going there and the battle scars are going to be part of the legacy of the ride. Yeah, I made that trail my bitch!
(Maybe if I find a crystal orange spray bomb I can touch it up a bit)



A thought I had (a bit late) was maybe a guy should carry a couple of those thin and flexible but very tough plastic cutting board covers I saw in a dollar store. About 14" X 10" and really thin. When a tight spot like that comes along just slip those in between the wide spots on the machine and the narrow place on the trail, and slip through. A theory anyway.

Yeah...can't hurt. Good idea...I just happen to have several packages of those sheets in the pantry. Think one will go in the box. For me in 2015 they were called the 53s cause at the shoulder bars they were 53"s wide but 50 at the wheels. I decided to put on the wheel spacers so they were the same but when the new doors went on the shoulder bars came off and the new doors (Rodin"s) don't stick out as far as the shoulder bars did. Now it's about 51.5"s across the doors...but a solid 53 at the wheels. I can take the spacers off...but those fenders are still 52"s. I guess they could come off too. Always something.....F-it..spray-on a little PAM, close your eyes...and go.

That's them. Not so useful with tires I suspect but it reminds me of a narrow 48" spaced round steel post gateway that I encountered at Eholt when I had my King Quad that was 50" to the outsides of the tires. I sprayed the tire sidewalls with the bottle of soapy water I carry to find the cause of flats, and the quad popped through. 

Can't be too fussy, just have to give 'er sometimes.

What bugs me the most is people that make these gates..49"s or exactly 50" where the vehicle makers make them exactly 50" as well..need a little slide-room there. These gates should be 52"..an inch on either side would be nice...hell I'd be happy with 1/2".

Think we got off-subject here...lol  Anyway that's a hell of a scrape on your door(s).

What do you think the reason behind the 49" or 50" gates is? I always thought that was odd too.

To restrict the width and weight of a vehicle on a trail so the trails won't grow wider over time or get holed-out. All ATVs come from the factories less then 50" wide so that standard was set for restriction posts. But making SXSs exacly 50"s wide is an issue as they will rub. The CFM's older trails were 53"s wide at their max like mine. Fortunately I have not had any gate issues I couldn't deal with.
