Went for a ride with my 2015 Zforce 800 Ex and noticed the speedometer reads about twice as fast as I was travelling according to another rider. I also noticed the RPM reads slightly higher also. Idle =1300 when it usually runs at 1000 RPM. My motor is not seemingly idling any faster than before this issue began. Anyone have experienced this problem also?
You probably have a speed sensor failing. Many have. But..do this: Either disconnect the battery or pull the main fuse under the drivers seat for a few minutes, then put it back in. Then hold the two buttons on the pod in while turning on the key and keep holding them in until you see a three-digit number at the bottom. This is the speedometer calibration. If that number starts with 5XX, then it is set to the default number and with the stock 26" tires you should be on target. You can change this number by cycling through with one button and change with the other. Know that the larger tire you have, the larger the number needs to be. For example- I have 27" tires. I changed just raised the first digit one number and it's close enough to leave the rest alone. When done you have to save the setting. Do that by holding both buttons in until the display returns to normal.
The normal idle RPM for an 800 is 1300 +/-100 so it should have never been 1000. I know..seems high to me too. But that's kinda telling me there may be something wrong with the pod rather then the speed sensor with both of these issues. They use an external sensor that can get full of junk and that may be what's wrong. Its on the front output shaft on the engine.
