ZForce 800EX Slow in High Gear
« on: October 03, 2019, 08:54:54 PM »
Hello everyone, new to the forum. Bought a used 2016 800 ZForce about a month ago. Everything seemed to work as it should. Just did and oil and filter change and took it out for a ride. In high gear it starts slow and tops out at around 20mph(has no pep whatsoever). Low and reverse work fine. Any insight on what may be the issue?
Thanks

I  just want to verify that the engine is spinning up fine, but the buggy is not transferring the power to the wheels and there is no smell of a burning belt.

If that's the case you have two things to look at; the variators and the wet clutch.

In low gear and at high throttle does it reach the rev limiter? If so does it reach the rev limiter in high range?
That is to say is it the rev limiter that limits top speed?
Does it run smoothly at the described 20 MPH max in high, or miss and fart?

It's a bit baffling to imagine it running perfectly in low but be that handicapped in high range unless some limiter is engaging due to the gear position.

If there is a belt problem, it usually shows-up in high range as there is much more load on the belt then in low. This is also the first sign of water or oil on the belt as well. Step#1 should be to pull the cover and start a complete inspection and cleaning. If there is a bad oil seal it and the belt will have to be replaced.

Haven't had the chance to look into anything yet, but did take it out for a spin. In low it takes off quick, runs smooth and reaches max rev. In reverse runs as it should. In high it takes off very slow, doesn't reach max rev, but it does run smooth. Tops out at 20-22mph. It is as there is a rev limiter on it in high. Going to start tearing into it this weekend.

Well, there is a rev limiter in high...its about 7750 RPM. In that range it should be traveling about 65/68mph. But if by chance the dif-lock is stuck ON, it will be limited to about 3800...which is in the mid 20s. Hold the override on and see what it does. If it does, you have your answer.

OK. The engine doesn't spin up. That should be simple enough.

Were you wearing your seatbelt?

Yea for realz. There’s a Saftey feature that limits your speed if you’re not wearing the seatbelt. You didn’t know?🤪🤪

I did not.  I've owned this 2017 since January of 2017, purchased new.  Maybe I always have my seat belt on for high speeds.  Never encountered anything like that.

I guess that gives me something to test.   :)
