Zforce 800EX in a 72 8' Long bed.
« on: February 02, 2016, 08:26:14 PM »
I purchased a new Zforce 800EX last weekend but we're having a heck of a time getting it moved from the dealership to my home. We rented a 5x9 uhaul trailer based on what we thought was a 800 EPS. When we got the the dealership we realized it was a 800EX EPS. The trailer was 6" to narrow. So we returned home empty handed and planned on reschedule later in the week. I rented a 6x12 trailer from Uhaul for Wednesday, now my friend with the truck can't make it due to family health issues.

I have a 1972 C20 3/4 /w 8' bed, however it doesn't have a tow hitch. I ran some measurements the other day, the narrowest location is at the tailgate pillars @ 63", after that inside the box is well over 70" so I'm confident it will fit width wise. I measured the length of the box to the top of the lifted gate at 8'4". The specs says the EX is 113 inches, so that's putting almost 12 inches on the gate while it's down. I can use the 1k lbs ramps under the tires to remove some of the weight directly on the gate. Does anyone believe this will be an issue? I'd hate to leave the UTV there at the dealership longer because I don't know when I'll have someone with a hitch to pull it.

Finally the dealer informed me the easiest way for them to get it into the back was by using a forklift. I assume they should load it with the front facing the rear as that's the lighter side of the vehicle?

Thanks!

Can you ask the dealer to deliver maybe for a fee? My dealer delivered mine for free. Sure they have a truck to haul it. Or rent a truck with a hitch. I'd not take the risk of my new ride falling off the back of a truck. JMO. Have AAA? Maybe they can send a roll back to "tow" it home?? Out of the box but heck it may work.

Use the ramps and go front in first. The wheels will have to climb over the wheel wells but that's no thong if you are slow and careful. DO check to make sure they will go past the back pillars though...both front and back wheels. Now..I have an 8' bed as well and mine is on the tailgate about 6" with some 4" block up front to keep it off the window. I am thinking yours should be the same but if it does come out to be a foot or so on your tailgate should be no problem either but you may want to put some ratchet straps on it just to be sure. If your 72 had the steel gate bars, that good but if it doesn't and had the cables, then you will need to get the bar supports for loading and unloading. The EX is the same body as the 53, just had longer a-arms to get out to about 59". On my 53, the fronts are 51.5" wide and will just fit between the wheel wells. Tell that dealer to pull out a pair of 10" ramps...you want to test them..lol. This is how it looks loaded and what yours will too..kinda. These were taken the day I brought it home:

I asked the dealer while we were there, they didn't have a delivery service. I can't complain about the dealer, they've been extremely helpful and I feel they gave a great deal considering all the extras they threw in. I think I found a guy from VA that will haul it for me, keeping my fingers crossed.

+1 on putting something in front of it if you decide on putting it in the back of a pickup. Makes you feel pretty stupid when you bust out the back window

Remember. NMK's is narrower than the EX. If you're planning on putting it in the back as shown. Just didn't want you getting there and saying WTH?? I saw one in the back of a truck!!

Yeah and frankly I don't think it will go between the back pillars. When I had the EX fenders on ot, the little wings at the bottom of the front fenders would touch on both sides as it went in...and I am pretty sure on the EX the tires extend out farther then those wings...front and back.  As you can see in the last pic, there is only about 2.5"s between the back tire and the pillars on each side with mine.

I vote just go buy a 6x10 trailer..you need one anyway.

Thanks guys, took the high road and just hired someone with a trailer to haul her home. My son was super excited over his birthday present even if it was a week early. I mean, how can you hide that thing? :-)

They fit in a 5x8' trailer... barely.  Lol

Here's my 15' 800 ex eps. The inside dimensions of the trailer are exactly 60"x96".
The 800 ex is 59 1/2" so it's wedged in there and as you can see the rear tires are centered on the tail of the trailer.
It has a ramp gate but I can't fold it back up if I use it, so I just lay it down flat inside the trailer and drive the zforce up over in 4low lol.

It works fine, the problem is the little 12" tires, I've blown 2 so far, just to close to the maxx capacity for the little things lol.

??? If you try to get a higher rated tire that may just correct your problem for the trailer. Try a D or even an E rated tire...that's your answer. Just sayin'  ;D

Thought about it.  But it also be nice to use the ramp gate and not be so tight on there lol.

Smaller and lighter was good when I had my jeep wrangler as the tow vehicle,  but now that I have the titan it'll pull more trailer lol
