ZForce 800 trail suspension upgrade
« on: March 05, 2018, 07:51:51 AM »
Anyone have the length of the front shocks fully extended of a ZForce 800 trail  ?
I am at work now an I have access to 4 Fox gas shocks from a Maverick 1000.  The rear seem to be direct bolt on. I have my rear shocks with me but not the front.

Yes,
My friend have a performance shop and this week I will have access to a all oem shock .
I will check
- LTR 450 for the front
- KTM 450 for the front
- Renegade Fox front and rear
- Maverick Fox front and rear
- Yamaha YZF front
- Ski Doo 800 XRS front
- others
I will update the length and info as soon as I have try it.

So far, the Maverick 1000 look to be very promising for the rear

My friends at the performance shop said that the oem CF Moto front shocks seem to be very good quality. Just limited in travel and probably wrong in the valving.

The rear shock seem ok for him but probably the same for the valving...

Tonight I will open my rear blow shock and see what have failed.

Wonder why ours are different? Do they use a different shock in Canada then the US?

I just jacked it up so the tire was off the ground. In doing my a-arm bushings I have to raise the a-arm back up to put the shock bolt back in so I figured it was at full extend.

Not sure I can give an a good answer on the preload. I found the center of the a-arm travel, then set the preload so that the front and rear a-arms were in that position with all the weight I usually carry, then adjusted them so that the front center skid plate was 1/2" lower then the rear..which meant the rear went up a bit and the front came down a slight bit. I am finding that over time, the front stay the same but the rear drops so twice now I have had to crank-up the preload on the rears..not a lot but still about two turns sense I first set them in 2016 and no adjustment to the fronts...so far.

What your friend said about the quality of the shocks I find interesting. I saw a video on you-tube where the guy stats the shocks on the Zforce were designed by ELKA for CFMOTO. Just putting it out there for what its worth.

In Canada the Snyper 800 2014 have the Elka shocks from the factory. Many owner have blow this shocks because they are not strong enough for the weight of the vehicle. In 2015 the shock where made by CF Moto but I am sure the Chinese have take the design of the Elka an put stronger shaft.

Elka shop are 20 min from my house. I will try to see if they can upgrade my oem CF Moto shocks

Anyone have the spring rate of the stocks shocks on the 800 trail ?
I will try to convert my oem shocks to dual spring this weekend.
