Z8ex suspension adjustment?
« on: May 08, 2016, 01:09:33 PM »
I did a search and couldn't find much info and looked in the service manual and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. We were out this weekend and z8 wasnt handling turns and whoops like I thought it should. I went to make some adjustments and the knobs on my reservoirs were all over. One side of the machine they were in (clockwise) all the way on the other side they were out (counter clockwise) all the way. I set them neutral at 5 clicks and noticed an immediate difference. I don't have l labels on them. I assume out (cc) is soft and in (clockwise) is stiff? For these fast in soft and slow is stiff correct? I do have the U.S. version, so no elka's. Thank you

I just got mine back. NEW rear shock design ( one spring ) and it feel a bit softer than the old ones at first wasn't sure I liked it until we went over some pretty rough terrain. Rode like a Cadillac through the woods.  Check out the new design guys. Let me know what you think.  I'll look at my settings tomorrow and let you know what they are maybe you'll like how the ride is with my settings.

So that new design comes from the factory like that? Mine is a 2016 and still have the 2 springs

Yeah the 2016's I saw are still running the dual spring set up. I saw an earlier post where someone got the same ones for their ride. And when mine were replaced it came back with these as well. New part number and all.  Wasn't sure if I liked them, aesthetically, at first but after riding on them it's smooth as silk. At least the spring chatter vibrating against the shock, and the "moaning" noise from the spring rubbing the shock when you'd get out of it is gone.

However, I DO want to be 100% positive that these ARE the new design and not just removing the top spring or ones that were for the trail model being its an ex. (Don't even know if there is a difference).

NMKawierider I noticed that yours look the same but with red instead of black pre load adjustment nuts.
Any word?

I believe yours just came with the new design. I'm impressed with how they feel, although I love the look of the ones on say the RZR 1000 turbos, long spring design. But I'm sure these are nothing to scoff at. @ $205.60 each. I know they're not $3000 Elkas or Foxs but seem to be a great riding shock.

Installed my new shock yesterday. I'm sure they have the same valving as the old shocks. As for the single rate spring, I'm gonna  find out today. I still have my old.shocks I may install the dual rate spring if the newbies ride aren't to my liking. Wish they had larger res as the stockers heat up alot.                                         Rot.

When I got mine back I was pleasantly surprised with the ride. Took it on some pretty rocky terrain and it rode like a Cadillac.

I had to replace 1 shock due to the wreck that my 800ex was in (not me wrecking it, I bought it that way) and when i got the new shock it was the new single spring design.  I didnt leave the single spring on and swapped it for the dual spring so that it was the same as all the others.  The 2 shocks seems to be identical other than the spring.  So now I have a single new spring just sitting around LOL.
I can imagine a world completely at peace.  A world where there are no weapons, no war, and no violence at all.  And I can imagine us taking over that world because they would never expect it.

After 200miles on my updated rear shocks, I am satisfied. The shocks are identical. The dual rate springs are to stiff. I installed them on the new shocks and it rode much "rougher" and the rebound and compression  in all positions aren't enough or just not calibrated  correctly. Thw dual rate springs however will absorb  the landing from a  nice jump in the local motor pit Rot.

My rear shocks with 2 springs will be replaced next week.  Dealer told me he will have to replace both because CFMoto changed the model. My current shock preload are 1.5 inches more than factory setting.  These new shocks from what I can see in the pictures and when the dealer showed them to me don't seem to have much threads left to add 1.5 inches of preload.
