Is there a plug in the rear for a trailer harness on the Z800? I have a little harness in the glove box that looks like it is supposed to be for a trailer but I cannot for the life of me find a plug for it to plug into.

Yes. Driver's side rear under the fender. Rounded cap.

I'll look again I guess. I found all the tail light wiring along the frame rail and across the back never found a loose plug

It's not a loose plug...its a mounted receiver. Just look at the rectifier or starter solinoid and follow the frame to the back and look for a weird round thing with a black cap.
