I had the same issue with mine. Im pretty sure it comes from the limited slip diff in the rear combine with the limited power in reverse and low range. I think the gears and frictions in the rear diff set from forward direction and when you put it in reverse its too much for the engine to handle. It'll idle fine in reverse because the clutch isn't engaged, when you hit the gas it engages the clutch, bam too much load on the engine. It always seemed like there was a heavy drag from the rear end in reverse. This was my theory on this after dealing with mine doing it and watching my friends z8 do the same.

Mine does this occassionally too. It will cut out and sometimes stall. I heard there was  sensor near the air filter that gets dirty and cause it to cut out. It needs to be taken out and cleaned. I never found the sensor though. anyone else know where this is sensor is if that's whats causing it?

It's on the top of the intake manifold just after the TB. I clean it and the dieing stops for a while. Not sure why it has any effect and only in reverse but it does. I have now deleted the RPM limiter in reverse so maybe that too will help...we'll see. Only use mass air flow sensor cleaner on that sensor though. Anything else will leave a coating on that wire and send false readings to the ECM.

Mine just started doing this too. It happens when I shift into reverse from park right after starting.

Oddly enough I was having the exact same issue with my xc800, it was brand new with 40km on it. After filling the 2nd tank with 94 octane gas it stopped doing it. Give it a try.

I've noticed this as well, even the Z1000 is not cold start friendly. Two idea's, the first being the cold start mapping is not as detailed as it should be. More hands on time in those conditions, it is time consuming & detailed in order to get it right.

The second, they switch from open loop to closed loop to early in the warm up period. If you go into CL early & it is cold the motor goes lean & it will be unstable.
