I purchased 1.5" spacers off of Ebay, as I saw a thread here mentioning them. I wanted to widen just the rear of my 2015 Z800 53" for a little better stability and look.  I put about 75 trouble-free miles on them the weekend I installed them. Then when riding last weekend, after about 20 miles of riding, I was on my way back to the cabin and I heard a slight ticking sound from the right rear.  I thought I'd just check the machine over when I got back as it was only a few hundred yards to go.  I got back and the right rear wheel is crooked/loose and looked to be about ready to come off!

I jacked it up to inspect.  2 lug nuts and spacer studs completely gone.  The other two were on their way out as the studs were pulling out of the spacer.  I checked the other rear wheel and 3 were good, the 4th came off in my hand when I went to check its tightness with a socket.  Both spacers themselves remained tightly bolted on to the machine’s original studs however.

The only thing I can think of is if maybe I inadvertently over-tightened the lug nuts when I installed the spacers, though it went nearly 100 miles without issue.  Anyone else here have issues with these spacers?  Opinions?

I have the other two spacers since they came as a set of 4.  I’m now worried as to if I should try again.  Any suggestions?

These are the spacers that I got: http://www.ebay.com/itm/281409968692?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Yeah..those are the wrong spacers. Those are hub-centric spacers or hub centering and the CFMoto requires lug-centric or lug centering. You need these:

I hope your wheels are not too damaged..

Can we add that link to the sticky for parts ?? I want spacers on mine and I can guarantee you that I would have probably ordered the same ones as the OP. I can link it later tonight when I'm not at work as well. Its valuable info like this that we need to make owners aware of before they buy the wrong part, or worse, damage their ride by buying the wrong part.

I checked the link in my "How To" and it is correct so I don't think this one needs stickied but you can do a link if you want later.

Damn, this is confusing...  Both Ebay spacer listings seem to fit the same machines as listed, and neither state they actually fit the Z800.  I just went by "any 4/110 ATV spacer will work" as I read somewhere here in the forum previously.

I wonder if I should have just bitten the bullet and bought spacers that specifically say they fit my machine (much more expensive).  It was hard to pass up the Ebay price though.

Luckily my wheels were not damaged.  Just a little light scuffing to the one which was loose, not a big deal.  It's scary to think that thing could have come off while I was cruising at 50mph though!  I have over 700 miles on the machine now (bought new in November 2015, manufacture date was January 2015 according to the frame stamp).

Well...let's see. The Moto hub doesn't have the tab for centering (That's the tab you cee on the wheel side) so the lugs that go onto the Moto studs have to be the tapered type and..there has to be counter-taper in the spacer for that type of lug nut. The nuts that come with the right spacer are smaller to fit the holes ..where the Moto nuts are 17MM the ones that come with it are like 3/4". Need a set of those in the same metric size and thread as the moto stud. I think they are 10mm. You could take them to a machine shop and have that taper cut in cut in and while they are there they need to cut the tab off the outside or wheel side. Then just use your stock nuts on the wheels.

I just ordered a couple of sets of the wheel spacers for our EX's, I want to try them out. Anything that makes the machines have a wider stance will help with stability, that's why we bought the EX's in the first place. Is there anything I need to know about these things before I put them on, that's god or bad? Do they do anything bad to the shaft at all etc?
Thanks Fellas-

In general moving the load further away from the wheel bearing adds torsional or side load stress to the bearing but people that keep them to 1.5"s and less are reporting little or no issues. I normally advocate NO spacers but because of this and the need to a little more stability I decided to do it. No issues so far although it also changes the steering geometry slightly.

A few things to remember though:
1. Use the nuts that come with them to secure them to the hub and be sure to torque then to about 56-60ftlbs along with the wheels-to-spacers.
2. After your first ride, check all the torques on all the nuts. Aluminum does compress or cold-flow so check them at least once.
3. Remember your wider stance. You may clip things you didn't before so on pinch-points, take it easy at first.

You will also notice softer spring feeling because the leverage of the wheel is moved out that distance.  I like a soft sprung ride but some people dont so its just something to be aware of.  If you dont like the soft spring feeling you may need to add some preload back into them to get them to feel like factory again.
I can imagine a world completely at peace.  A world where there are no weapons, no war, and no violence at all.  And I can imagine us taking over that world because they would never expect it.

REAL good info here Fellas, much appreciated. I wondered if it would make the ride softer, and to be honest, I won't mind it being softer....(I'm a wuss...)  ;)

It may a little but I think you can do the same by opening the compression valves on your shocks. That's toward the "Faster" side. Of course with a softer ride cones things like more body roll but if hat doesn't bother you, some have unbolted the sway bar links. I know this does make for a smoother ride but its pretty tippy doing power slides and fast corners.
