I purchased 1.5" spacers off of Ebay, as I saw a thread here mentioning them. I wanted to widen just the rear of my 2015 Z800 53" for a little better stability and look. I put about 75 trouble-free miles on them the weekend I installed them. Then when riding last weekend, after about 20 miles of riding, I was on my way back to the cabin and I heard a slight ticking sound from the right rear. I thought I'd just check the machine over when I got back as it was only a few hundred yards to go. I got back and the right rear wheel is crooked/loose and looked to be about ready to come off!
I jacked it up to inspect. 2 lug nuts and spacer studs completely gone. The other two were on their way out as the studs were pulling out of the spacer. I checked the other rear wheel and 3 were good, the 4th came off in my hand when I went to check its tightness with a socket. Both spacers themselves remained tightly bolted on to the machine’s original studs however.
The only thing I can think of is if maybe I inadvertently over-tightened the lug nuts when I installed the spacers, though it went nearly 100 miles without issue. Anyone else here have issues with these spacers? Opinions?
I have the other two spacers since they came as a set of 4. I’m now worried as to if I should try again. Any suggestions?
These are the spacers that I got:
