What brakes?
« on: August 27, 2019, 08:12:29 PM »
Looking for new brakes. All I can find is 2017 and older. Are they the same for 2018, zforce 800ex or are they different?

They did change them in either 2018 or 2019 to a different system. Might need to call and talk with sales at EBC and see what they have...or will have soon.

I can’t imagine them being worn out at just over 100 miles. But 3 of them are squealing. But we did do some steep down hill mountains. I’m sure that’s not a warranty item.

Check them. May just be glazed a bit and need a little sanding...or I've had small rocks get in places that ride against the rotor and make all kinds of noise....Mine also came with all the caliper slides seized and the brake peddle adjusted wrong so it wouldn't completely release the fluid back into the res. That makes the pads drag on the rotors and wear fast. Mine had 500 miles on them when I changed to EBCs but they still looked pretty new...still have them for spares. The stocks are very hard and metallic..ie and don't make good friction...IMO. The EBCs are more conventional materials and grip the rotor much better. I can stop with just one foot instead of both feet on he peddle...lol

What is EBC and where is your source? I also found my caliper slides seized and in need of grease. I need to replace my parking break pads as one is about gone but the other looks full. Probably slide issues there as well.

GOOGLE "EBC Brakes" for the manufacturer's link to talk to a rep and get parts numbers. Then "Perfect Brakes" for a link to purchase. You can always buy OEMs at Alpha-Sports.com but they will cost more and not be as good as EBCs.

Check the thickness of the pads, it's easy to see. Not only are they unlikely to be worn out at 100 miles (Mine have 3740 miles and look very good still) but CF Moto brakes are notorious for squeaking. I solved it by just painting 'Disk Brake Quiet' on the backs of the pads and reinstalling them.

ps I ride British Columbia and we have plenty of steep mountain trails. The CF Moto deals with them just fine. :D.  I'll bet you just have the common CF Moto brake squeak.

I might need to try that Disc Brake Quiet on mine, if I don't find some better ones first.  It has had squeaky brakes pretty much since day 1, whether applied or not (but obviously worse when applied).  I took all the pads off a couple weeks ago and cleaned them up and chamfered the ends of them as I've seen mentioned, didn't help at all.  The pads are still like new, but they look almost like solid blocks of copper, very hard.  My slides were all free but I greased them anyway before reinstalling.  I've seen posts saying Yamaha Rhino(maybe?) pads will work for the front, but not sure on the rears.  My 2018 pads are different than many others I've seen though, so maybe that's when they changed them.

I did all that to mine too and changed the pads and used the disk brake quiet red and...they did finally quit that F'n squeaking. So yeah, tray the everything...they will quit.

So I went to Perfect Brakes and found they listed my 2016 CFMoto 800 ZForce brake pads. But at $32 a corner seems quite steep. Maybe I missed something but it looked like pads only.

Yeah they have really gone up. The carbon X are a little cheaper. I found some rears cheaper on ebay through a couple of different companies. I know nothing about the quality though but here you go:

Think you will need two sets of these:

...and those prices remind me of the old saying, "you get what you pay for".
I would like to check w/ my dealer on what people are buying and what their reviews are.
