How often do you guys clean out the CVT?  I have 600 miles on my 2018 (barely broken in) and all I have done is oil, snorkel the air intake and fill or tape as many holes in the body to cut down on dust.

How often do you guys clean out the CVT?  I have 600 miles on my 2018 (barely broken in) and all I have done is oil, snorkel the air intake and fill or tape as many holes in the body to cut down on dust.

Just depends...for many people 600 miles is nothing and little has happened in there. For some...like me and where I ride by 600 miles I had already replaced my helix ramps and the rollers already had large flat spots on them as well as ground dust packed into...everywhere.. causing operational problems. And I was opening it up every 200 miles or so and cleaning it out. Just going to have to open it up and see. I would remove the clutches and at least clean with compressed air and inspect everything. It's good practice and something every owner needs to know. You will need spanners and a torque wrench....and the shop manual. We also have some videos in the How to section.

Both are clutches-one drive and one driven. To get to the helix on the driven...aka secondary you will have to pull it, yes. But usually just a good blow with compressed air and a wipe-down with some acetone is all it needs..maybe hit the sheave surfaces with a scotchbrite pad first. No lube on anything on any clutch. Always use the proper torque when re-installing. Same for the front/drive/primary, although it's a bit different. Check the bearing while there and make sure the cam plate and roller slots are completely clear of trash and powder. Reassemble exactly as the book says. You may need a puller for it. For sure you will need a torque wrench and some spanners.
