Transmission
« on: April 24, 2016, 03:27:18 PM »
Transmission noise, as I didn't buy mine new I don't really know if I have a problem or not but my rear axle seems to make heck of a racket when under load, I'm not expecting silent running but at the minute it seems too load for my liking. I don't want to be into stripping the rear "diff" if it's normal  ;)

I bought my 2015 brand new and yes I believe it's the rear differential that's noisey under load like they used straight cut gears. Probably my only dissapointment in the machine.

These things are noisy by nature but check everything like gear case/diff oils and change them to a synthetic 80/90 or 75/90. Check for play or movement in bearings and CV joints, end play or side play movement in the pinions...stuff like that.

Have the rear differential loosened up, it was assembled too tight!

My first ZForce ran quiet under load but my second Zforce was horrific!  It sounded like a wood planner.  I knew it was not normal and my dealer agreed knowing of my experience I had with my first CFMoto. They opened the differential and changed the shims, loosening it up and now it is super quiet other than the standard whining of the clutch.

This is great info...Drop a part number for the shims and the backlash specs for the ring, pinion out of the service manual for a one stop info for the fix!

Wouldn't loosening the adjuster on the diff casing achieve the same thing ?

Good question. They told me they opened the diff.  I will ask them if they used the adjuster. What ever they did totally resolved the issue.

Real funny you guy's post this, yesterday I rode my Daughter's machine, and it was QUIET next to mine, her transmission etc makes almost no noise, mine whines, like someone else said, like a wood planer. I know it ain't good...can't be; right?

There is an adjustment on the diff? Can someone screen shoth the service manual or parts explosion to highlight this?

Part #10 and 19 are the only methods of adjustment on diff I see here. They have optional shim thicknesses. A tight diff will eventually wear in after mileage I would think.

The only external adjustment on the rear gear case to my knowledge is the parking brake cable.

In my opinion it shouldn't be that loud. I would prefer if it was quieter. The adjuster can be seen in the picture

Wow...amazing! Had no idea! But what does it actually adjust? The manual is a little tough to comprehend for me. From what I read, it's not something you want to do without some good understanding.

That's one question, it's opposite where the crown wheel and pinion meet, it maybe just some sort of support or guide
