Tie rod adjustments
« on: August 18, 2021, 06:54:06 PM »
My kid clipped a log and the front right was slightly off and steering wheel was a little off center. I adjusted the tie rod end and the wheel looks straight and the steering wheel returned to center.

I only adjusted the outer tie rod. I didn’t remove the boot on the inner. Is there any adjustment there?  I had to go out about a half inch and want to make sure I still have enough of the tie rod end in the rod.

Did you check the toe after you were done? Also, those setting change after an event like that because something gets bent. It's usually a tie rod or knuckle arm but it can be an a-frame or mount or something to do with the rack. You would be doing yourself a favor to find out what and...fix.. it so you won't have more threads sticking out of one side then the other...cause that IS where these things break tie rod ends...on those threads. The more they are exposed....the weaker it is. Just a fact. Especially true with this soft Chinese metal.

I didn't see anything that looked bent, but I did not remove the inner boot. I assume no adjustment on the inner side?

I am not real familiar with alignment and toe, but I guess I need to watch some videos. I just turned the tie rod a few times until the wheel looked straight and that also made the steering wheel return to center.  I didn't do a test ride yet.
