starter switch
« on: February 01, 2018, 08:03:04 AM »
Got a 2017 ZForce 800.
Looking to see if anyone has taken their ignition switch out and replaced it with a toggle. My ignition keeps freezing up. Tried several water displacing fluids and such. Thinking it might be easier to put in an "ON" switch and a momentary switch to start the machine.

Thoughts???

No reason why it can't be done. May be some security concerns...and you would need water proof switches but probably easy enough to do. The wiring diagram shoes what wires are bridged in each position. As I recall though one that is bridged in the on position is not when in the starter position. If that's true, that may be an issue. Have to study it and see.

I might be more tempted to figure-out why I had water in the switch and take steps to remedy.

The "why" I have water in the switch is due to me being a dumbass and washing the machine without the cover on the ignition a couple of days before cold weather came in.  Been trying to get the water out ever since. My machine is stored outside under a tarp. I have a GPS tracker on it, so, not too worried about security. I've blasted it with WD40 and dielectric grease, but there's still water in there. I figured that coupled with the kill switch, I could "hide" an on switch and put in a momentary switch for the ignition.

Have you thought of simply using a hair blower to dry out the switch?

I tried a heat gun.

Really need to pop it out, fill it with electrical contact cleaner, then dump it out a couple of times. Flush it out well. Then hit it with an air hose. And I know WD40 was originally a water dispersant but I have been told it plays heck with electrical contacts. I know if you stray battery terminals with it it gets between the terminal and the post..and can break contact. So I assume it would do the same with the contacts on switches and stuff. Maybe not...never tried it.
