Spare belt?
« on: March 16, 2021, 11:51:09 AM »
Anyone ever have a belt grenade on them? Dealer told me not to bother setting myself up to change a belt trailside as I probably wouldn't need it. However a day or two after that conversation I had to pull my buddies Maverick out of the woods almost a mile when his launched. Are these machines that much better about the belts that I shouldn't worry about this?

They are no better but...they also don't have the power others have either so not as much stress or heat on the belt. And the 800s have the wet clutch so it takes the brunt of starting off not the belt which is always engaged. The 1000s...well they don't. On changing then trail-side...these are a bitch and although some have rolled the belt on and off, its will probably damage it so you do have to pull the clutches...even the secondary a little to do the job. That means spanners, hand wrenches, torque wrench, socks...and about an 40 minutes to an hour's time. Not me man. I have a tow strap under the seat and always ride with people.

My neighbor had to replace the belt on his Z1000.  He got it with 300 miles and always had a shudder on take off.  Evidently the belt had flat spots on it from the previous owner.

I'm currently at 2700 miles on the original belt on my Z800.

Wow 2700 miles, good to know. I guess I got time then huh. Maybe I'll just stick to biannual inspections for now like the dealer recommended. They said once or twice a season depending on usage. I use it to plow and I've been known to thrash it pretty hard with people who haven't been in it yet just to show em whats up lol. I love going at a big puddle in the throttle and seeing them be like holy crap. lmao Always a fun reaction Reaction edited for public viewing obviously. ;D
