Spaceman's ZForce Build!!!
« on: October 06, 2015, 02:00:34 AM »
I don't have any pics yet, but I'll get some soon.

I started with the 2 Bros. exhaust.

Tonight, I put my 30" Monster Mayhems from my Grizzly on the Z8. I don't have it lifted yet, but they still fit good. I took a short ride around the farm and there was no rubbing. They may rub when the suspension compresses with the steering at full lock, but a lift should fix that. The tires are mounted on STI HD2 Gloss Black Machined wheels. The stock wheels looked like they had more off-set but looks were deceiving. I gained about 2" width in the front and 3" in the rear.

I plan to lift it this week and do some clutch work.

What lift are you using? Just a warning, the super ATV lift isnt so much of a lift as a lets rough up your ride add on. It just gives more pre-load which prevents the machine from sagging from its own weight.

We have purchased lift kits from this company before, and they are well worth the money. They are high quality. I sent a request hoping they could design a lift kit for them.

I'm going to make my own lift. I'm going to try to do it this week because I'm on vacation. But I have a lot to do while I'm off, so I hope I'll have time.

OK, here are pics with the tires without the lift. I got the lift on late tonight, but it was too dark for pics. These are a good start. So far no rubbing even without the lift. I should not have any rubbing for sure with it.

Here are the pics with the lift. I used an old RZR lift and modified it to work. I don't know what brand it is. It was on a RZR  that my brother bought. He sold it to my dad. My dad didn't want the lift and took it off. I had to grind the front pieces a little on the sides to make them fit between the shock mounts. Then I had to weld a piece of metal on the bottom so they would sit flat on the A-arm. In the rear I had to grind the bottom down so they would fit against the A-arms. I had to clearance the square tube piece on the end of the a-arm, so the shock would bolt up.

After these pics were taken, I set my pre-load to the softest settings. It probably lowered it just a little, but not noticeably. I'll probably remove the sway bar to help articulation in the rough stuff.

Thing looks sik man!
How much lift was that rated for?
That's like what I plan to do with mine, an actual lift and not preload jacking spacers

I really don't know anything about the lift. I don't even know what brand it is. The distance between the bolt holes is 1.5". I've read that most lifts are not as high as they say. Since the A-arms extend a little past the shock mounts, it should lift a little more than 1.5". I would say it is probably a 2" lift. As I said, it was on my brother's RZR when he bought it. When my dad bought it from him, he took the lift off. The lift didn't have any writing or markings on it.

I didn't want the spacers either. I could raise it just the same by cranking up the pre-load. I've seen it done before. As I mentioned, after lifting, I set my preload to the softest settings to improve the ride quality.

I should also add, that with the front shocks unbolted and the front suspension hanging as far down as it would go, the lift just fit between the shock an A-arm perfectly. So personally, I wouldn't try anything taller, unless someone makes a big lift that replaces the whole suspension and axles.

I've not had a chance to ride much since doing the mods. It is a little sluggish off the bottom and lost some power above that, but it does seem to pull the tires well. I haven't had a chance to do clutch work yet. That should take care of the power. I also plan to do more power mods when I can.

I finally got around to finishing some clutch mods. I haven't been able to give it a good test ride yet. Just a few runs up and down the driveway and down the road about a quarter mile. It seems to work pretty good so far. I did a 1mm shim mod. I posted a thread in the how to section on that, if you want more details. This changed my pulley ratio from about 2.5:1 to about 3.25:1. This helps a lot with pulling the big heavy 30s. I clocked my secondary to the C4 position. It brings the RPM into the power band a little better. It's finished shifting by around 5400 instead of 4000. I still have stock weights for now. I'd like to have DR. Pulley sliders, but have to wait for funds. I'll see how the stock weights do for now, then decide what weight sliders to get when I can.

Now that you've had the lift on for a while. Have you noticed any rubbing? I'm about to upgrade to 30's myself, gonna use the SuperATV lift, and I'm curious if I need to invest in spacers?

I don't have any rubbing. I didn't seem to have any before the lift, but I didn't ride much with the tires before the lift. My wheels are wider off-set than stock, so I'm not sure if you'll need spacers.
