Snorkel (engine + cvt)
« on: November 10, 2016, 04:37:37 PM »
Hi, today I have check my cvt filter for the first time ... in 3800km ! As you can imagine, the filter was very dirty..but not plugged (I have a rear window so a lot less dirt in the cabin).
Anyway, i plan to make a new set up for the cvt and motor since I think the stock piping is to small.
Anyone have make a good set up ?
Any pic ?

The plumbing up to that rubber boot with the filter is at or over 3" and well large enough. The issue I see is that boot restricts it down to less then 2" at the filter, then back out to the grill. I am eliminating that boot with 2- 3" 90s and a couple of couplings. I am porting mine into the bed on the driver's side. Then I can use a number of different filters and/or just slap some 90s on ports and have instant snorkels if ever needed. Some of the parts are not here yet but when they do I'll complete the project and do a full write-up and how too. In the meantime..this is where it will be:

I have already made a blank door and sealed it off for the inside:

This 3" adaptor will protrude through the bed to clamp on any filter I wish just like my other one for the engine air intake shown in the second pic.

I gave up trying to put one inside that cab as there just isn't room anywhere high enough...that I could find and.. like.

Thank you VERY much for your time and good write up.
Do you have a pic of the stock plumbing at the end (just before the cvt filter) ? Is it round ?

I really like to put the two filter (cvt + engine) inside the cab because in the bed I think they will receive to much sand and mud or snow. My box is always the dirtiest part of my side.

It's kinda round with a slight ovel to it, and a 3" silicone fitting slides right over it.

When mine is all done, both will be on that back wall covered with Outerwears water resistant prefilters like this.

Along with extra filters for the mushroom filter I can also use this Unifilter as needed on either.

My engine filter will be on the passager side close to the roof (inside the cab)
For the cvt, i will probably copy you if you let me do it !

Lol..help yourself. That's why I do those How Tos. They may not be what others want but it might give them an idea what can be done.

Need to remove sticker and paint but you can see the design.
Very easy.
I need and outerwear on my filter.

Also, I can put the stock cover that goes normally over the stock airbox so nothing can be see from the outside and the piping are protected. A LOT more acces to the engine and very easy to clean the air filter

Yeah that makes it easy to get to. That's one thing I like about the external filter, easy to get to and clean and you don't have to do the airbox filter very often.

I will try an other set up.

Yeah I hear that without the airbox all that intake sound is sent straight to the end of the pipe and it's quite noisy. With my mushroom filter I could hear it just a little for a few seconds at startup. Haven't heard it with this big cone filter. The oversized Unifilter in the airbox may also have helped.

Also, the long piping in 2" are too restrictive.

Yeah I bet. For years they used 2" on the 750 Kawasaki V twins for snorkeling then they went to 3" because of the restriction the 2" had. These are 800cc so it might be worse. Probably really only need 2.25 or 2.50". The airbox adaptor is close to 2.25".

The pre-filter cyclonic I am going to install has 2.5 "adapters 2.75" and 3 "I will try to place the 2.5" to the box.

I like le cyclonic pre-filter, but our intake système are to restricted if you have and free flowing exhaust  so adding this pre filter will not help :(
