I haven't read all the replies to this post, but what diameter are the springs and how far is the shock reservoir from the body of the shock (on those that are rubbing) ?

It was about 21mm on one of my shocks that was rubbing.

Ok, mine are 21-22 mm too but mine don't rub, could it just be the spring diameter is too big for the shock ?

As I recall, they rubbed because the reservoir's mount casting made it bent-in at the botton...ie the res. didn't run straight in line with the spring.

I just went out to the garage and checked mine, there has been no rubbing and there's about a quarter inch gap from spring to reservoir. These are the dual rate springs with the plate in between. 16 EX 800

It's not as easy as rotating the spring.  I've tried that.  I did measure the distance from the shock body to the reservoir.  It came to to be about 21mm at the end.  In the first picture you can see the wear on the spring itself.  Picture 2 shows how much of the outer ring has worn away.  Picture 3 shows the depth of wear.

I don't think it a shock issue, on mine the reservoir is 21-22mm away from the shock and mine don't rub, I think it's either the spring it too large in diameter or something to do with the  spring seat, allowing the spring to move off centre.

Has anyone measured the spring diameter on one that rubs ?

Let's also get some photos up on those that do rub. Some profile shots and some being measured would be great.

Just got my Z force back new thermo switch and new rear shocks. They are the single spring design.  Looks more like they just eliminated the top spring.
I'll post some pics tomorrow.
