Shifting Issues
« on: March 28, 2021, 11:13:48 PM »
I've been having intermittent shifting issues. There doesn't seem to be a real common denominator for when or how frequently it will happen on any given ride. No weird sounds. Sometimes shifts is a little rough, but nothing consistent. Really the only way to tell if something didn't engage is to try to accelerate. The engine will crank up, but not delivering any power to the wheels. Very rarely, trying to reverse will cause the engine to shut off. This only happens in reverse.

I pulled some plastic today to inspect the gear linkage and found a cracked part. I'm pretty sure this is the ROCKER, GEARSHIFT 9010-320200-1000 pictured in the attachment. Can someone clarify that for me? Is that as simple as removing the bolt pictured to replace?

Lastly, should I be concerned that there is another problem causing my shifting issues?

Yes, easy to remove but as it has to clamp-down on the splines of the shaft, it has to have a split in it somewhere and I don't see any other. It is also visible in the parts drawing as well.

On the 2014-2016 Z Forces there were some shift gates that the detents did not match the detents on the transmission. Mine was one. No matter how perfect I set the rod...and you usually do that from the center, the ends would not line up and would pull it out of low or have a problem. You can test yours by screwing the knob down to push the lock away from the detents. This means the shifter will not be locked in any position, only the transmission detent will keep it in place so don't bump it. Take it for a run. If it stays in gear under the same conditions you has it come out of before, you have your answer. You can replace it or...do what I did and grind-out "Vs" slightly to let the locker fit correctly. On a side note I also found it goes past Park and over runs the drum in the transmission so I put a stop on the shifter to not allow it to go too far. All has been fine sense 2015.

Of course someone could have shifted it while still moving which usually bends the shifter fork inside. If after you release the shifter lock it still does it...this may well be the problem. Good luck.

Thanks for the guidance. Mine shifts beyond park as well. I'll start with the piece that is clearly cracked and shifter detents and go from there.
