Running tires larger than 27" on their Z800 Trail
« on: January 19, 2021, 07:48:19 AM »
I'm dying for more ground clearance but don't want to install a lift kit on my Z8 Trail.  As everyone can attest CF Moto does not offer great ground clearance on stock machines, so what I want to know is who is running what size tires on their Z8 Trails without re-clocking the clutch and installing wheel spacers?  It would sure be nice to get an extra 1-1/2 to 2 inches on my trail model without making any other alterations.  Thanks for any and all input.

I think I've seen some posts about guys going to 28" tires on the trails but I'm sure they were running spacers as well.  I am also interested in going to a 28" tire.  I have the ITP Cryptid's in mind as my buddy has them on his RZR and they work great pretty much anywhere we go.  I am also planning on going with 1" spacers but I think if you go with the right size tire it should clear everything without a spacer, but the rule of thumb is if you go up, you should go out as well.

I believe you can run 28" tires on the stock wheels on a trail without spacers but you are getting pretty close. Also one rule of thumb is when adding a lift kit, those tuck the hubs in closer to the chassis..or inward, so most add spacers to get the wheel back out to the normal width. All spacers put additional side aka cantilever load on the bearings, bushings and ball joints. However 1.5" and less have the least noticeable effects on longevity.

I just want to get through this winter without tearing the skid plate out from under this Z8, then I'm going to find a stock machine that has plenty of clearance.
