Replacement shock
« on: June 24, 2016, 07:40:52 PM »
Hey guys, new to this forum.  I'd appreciate any help you can offer.  Picked up a brand new leftover 2015 z800 last weekend.  Less than 10 miles on the machine and passenger rear shock leaked every drop of oil out of it. Cfmoto sent me a new one but it only has one spring on it as
Conpared to the originals which have 2.  Is this common? Or should they have sent a set for the rear? Thanks in advance guys!!!

They need to send a set for you or you can put your other springs on it if...they don't rub the reservoir.

Thanks for that.  You would think they would have put both springs on the shock before they sent it.  Hopefully I can get the other one swapped out and actually be able to ride it more than a few minutes this time.

Looks to me like they've just removed to short spring

That's what I had thought at first, but cfmotoguy greg had informed us that they have in fact changed the design quite a bit. Removal of the helper spring, angle and distance of the reservoir from the spring/shock. Mine ride just fine and have no problems with them. Haven't even tried any adjustment as it rides and handles the places I ride as I expected it to, so if it's not broken.......

I just picked up 2 new design rear shocks yesterday from my dealer.  Will be installing tonight.  Will post pics and comparison to the original.  I blew 2 sets of rear shocks because of leaking.  Dealer covered them. What happens is the shock comes loose from bottom adjusted (lack of lock tight from factory).  I would check them before, during, after the ride.  I went to harbor freight and bought a wrench that I modified to get in to tighten it.  There is a nut at the very bottom.

I have seen good reviews of the new design shock on here.  Can't wait to test out the ride on Saturday.

Well, I just installed the 2 rear shocks (new design) and I cannot find any other difference other than the spring ! ! !  The arm that holds the canister is the same, the angles are the same, Control knobs are the same.  I just hope they put lots of lock tight on the threads !!!!

I will post pics later

The main concern I have is the pre load adjuster looks like it has very little adjustment to raise the ride height/stiffen the spring, a quick fix rather than a permanent solution
