The rear gear case is a typical design for most off-road vehicles and works fine unless you need it for extended on-road or pavement uses and/or turf/greens applications. In the US, there is no option for one with "Turf Mode", however in the EU they have the option of a locking differential or one that has "Turf Mode". This would be a welcomed option in the US but as I understand it, we can't even order one for use in the US. That may not be 100% true...but it sure would be nice if someone could find a way to have then sent here. As for converting the front for use on the rear...not possible as it wasn't built strong enough not would it operate in the correct direction.
