Question about oil dipstick reading.
« on: August 24, 2021, 12:36:53 PM »
I was just checking the oil level for the first time after purchase, followed the instructions in the manual (unscrew, clean dipstick, dip back in without screwing, pull out and check level) and the dipstick comes out and appears to have oil way up past where the "full" level of the dipstick is. Was this thing overfilled from the factory? Am I reinserting the dipstick wrong? Reading it wrong? Some other issue? Is this something to worry about?

Dry it well and confirm exactly where the full mark is on the stick as well as where the manual says it is. Check it several times drying between each time and confirm you are on level ground and that you have run it for at least several seconds before checking so as the oil cooler and lines are primed and full. If it is still well above the full mark...yes, you can assume it has been overfilled and you should remove some to get it back to the correct level. A hair or so above the full mark is OK but much more then that isn't. Do know that in some cases where a CFM engine had low oil pressure adding extra had helped. It's cheating..so watch that oil pressure light after lowering the level. If it starts coming on...there's an issue.

So I took a sniff of the dipstick and it definitely has a slight gasoline smell to it. Guessing I should take it back to my dealer?
