P0174 and fuel leak
« on: April 12, 2025, 08:20:40 PM »
I'm having a few issue with my 2022 Zforce trail, I'm not sure if it's all related or not but I feel like it is.

first: fuel pump is leaking at the top.  I have had the issue before and was able to tighten the lock ring but this time I took the ring off. When I tried to put it back on my fuel pump will not push down flush with the tank.  The one side closest to the passenger door does not seem to compress enough to sit flush.  So now when I try to put the ring back on it is a pita and usually ends up trying to cross thread.  Makes me wonder if it has always been like this and that's why i have leak issues periodically.  Is there a way to adjust the slider on the pump?

2: I'm getting code p0174.  Would the leak at the top of the fuel pump cause this?

3: the sxs will not go over 40km/hr. This started in January after pulling the kids on sleds in the snow.  Figured there was ice build up so I let it dry out but when I took it out a week later is still would not go over 40 and then threw the p0174 code.

Thanks in advance. 😀

I don't see a P0174 on any list. May be a generic code that's setup in the reader. The leaking ring won't throw any codes. On the pump the basket is spring loaded and the basket sets flat on the bottom. Also, something rolling around the tank bottom could have been setting next to the pump when you lifted it...and moved to under it, keeping it from going all the way down. So pull the pump and take a look. My 2015's looks like this with the pump out. I also noticed on mine that I had to start the threads on the tank and cap at their end, otherwise it would just cross-thread. Mark the two so you can get them together.

Hi SuburbonDad,

In answer to your question would your tank/pump problem create a p0174 code.

The response is a definitive yes, as p0174 is the code for lean fuel mix, which is correct as you have fuel supply/starvation issues with the pump body/unit not sitting correctly into the tank threads.

Get it resolved ASAP as a lean fuel mix can cause overheating problems in addition to the issues you are already experiencing.

Well I finally had some time to work this out.  Looks like my skid plate under the fuel tank was bent up, pushing the fuel tank in and not allowing the fuel pump to sit flat on the bottom of the tank. Got that all bent down back in to place.

However I am still throwing code P0174 so I guess I will need to look at other options. Previously I had a faulty maf sensor throwing this code but it did not stop me from going over 40.

Well I have replaced my fuel pump,  speculating that maybe it was damaged when the skid plate was bent. Still having the same issue.

One thing I have just realized is that the temp gauge does not go over one bar.   I had it sitting in my driveway running for 20 min,  only one bar. Could this be causing my issue of not going over 50?    I haven't been able to drive this thing for over 6 months but the dealer isn't very close nor do I have a trailer atm.

The fact that the temp doesn't change means something is wrong..with the sensor, harness, pod or ECM. By itself it wouldn't effect running except with bad sensor input it should put out an error code. Is it? You talked about a bent skid plate. Did anything else get damaged?
