Just did my 3rd oil change - all normal
Went on a ride Saturday - all normal
Sunday - stopped behind a bunch of bikes and noticed my oil lights
Blinking and stopping - kept going a little further, no more light
Stopped and checked the oil - level is normal

At idle, the light blinks a few times - a little bit higher idle, light goes off

Is this the sensor ( haven’t checked the pressure yet )
Or something worse

Has been flawless for 3300 kms

There have been issues with some sensors so I would replace that but..while out I would check the actual pressure. There have also been issues with blockages in the oil cooler and pressure relief valves getting stuff in them. That's the easy stuff. The tough stuff..you don't want to know..yet. But I will ask this-has the temperature gauge ever in it's past gone to.. or near the top of the scale?

Luckily, I ride with many mechanically inclined commercial fisherman as I work
in their world.

I watch the gauges like a hawk at all times, so the Temp gauge has never budged above 3-4 bars
as it's done since I bought it - when i noticed the oil light, this prompted me to  check things and
keep an eye on it.

If the pressure relief valve sticks open, would it give low oil pressure ?

I am looking for a pressure test kit as I write this.

Yes, especially at lower RPMs and idle.

I have the service manual for a Zforce 1000 ( looks like 2017 ).
How different is the engine from a 2017 to 2021 and especially the oil system ?

Can anyone share the 2021 800 ex service manual ?

The 1000cc engine in the old chassis was only in 2018 and 2019. Starting in 2020 they went in the new chassis and marketed as the 950s in the US and 1000s everywhere else. The 800 engine in the Zs did not change until January of 2023 so the service manual for the 2014-2017 will have the correct engine with wet clutch layout including the oil system. It will be slightly different then the 1000s as it was the next gen case, clutch and top end. I do not have the 2021 Z800 manual but I do have the 14-17 and will PM you a link. Did anyone ever take an actual oil pressure reading? That...should have been the very first step.

Yes, I had an independent shop that my friends use and respect do the initial test as they wanted $65 vs the $225 at the dealership -  They confirmed low pressure on idle, pressure up on throttle, but would fluctuate up/down at higher RPM's. Since it's still under warranty, I called the dealership I bought it at ( 2 hrs from my home ) and they couldn't take it in for 3 weeks !!
So I took it to the local dealership ( who weren't setup when I bought it ) and they could take it the next day.....

Here we are a week later and still no answers - today, they were finally draining the oil and checking the relief valve.

This is why I asked for the service manual as the one I had seems to be a simple check vs tearing the side of the engine off... and this is where this shop is taking it's time, trying to figure out who's paying the bill.

If it's engine related, and not externally damaged, then it should be warranty in my mind.

Probably just trash in the relief valve (fingers crossed). All of it should be covered under warranty IMO. CFM has had way too may oil pressure-related problems to not address...all of it.

I checked on the machine at the dealership and still hadn’t looked at the relief valve….
He was looking at the service manual when I got there and he took me into the service bay to see my ride on the hoist with the stator side off… trying to find the relief valve.

In the 1000 manual I first had, it shows a “bolt “ that holds in the relief valve and in the manual shared from here, shows a small plate with 2 bolts holding it in. 2 pics attached.

Both pages state the valve is on the CVT side or PTO, which the mechanic had not opened that side ??

Alternately, they had a 2023 engine on the bench that had busted the block, so I got a good look at it which also had the “ bolt “ type valve.

Any idea why these 2 manuals show the difference ?

The 2021 Z800s won't be like the 1000s at all. That's the gen-2 case. All the 800s with the wet clutch, from 2014-2022 will be the same with the gen-1 case..and that's like the manual I gave you. The 2023s..the ones with no wet clutch, are the gen2 cases like the 1000s.

Well, my oil pressure issue is fixed......... Still not sure what the issue was, but getting a constant pressure.

In this case, the dealership said they checked oil pump, filter, oil cooler and relief valve; and although did clean some gunk, had no actual defective part !!!

So this leads to the next part... not covered by warranty !! Dealership said they couldn't get warranty without sending back a defective part.

They did do me a solid by only charging a service call and oil change kit ! Alot cheaper than the 23 hours spent chasing the issue !!

Taking it out on the trail tomorrow for the day; gicing great weather.
