I'm about to remove the generator rotor from my 800ex so that I can swap the old pump.
It says in the service manual that I'd need a 42x1.5 flywheel puller, could I use a set of pulley draws around the outside of it??

NO...you'll warp it. It must be pulled by the hub with that puller. Look on ebay for the cheapest ones. And always put a bolt or something in on the end so you don't push directly on the crank as it will damage it.
