oil pressure
« on: April 19, 2022, 11:24:43 AM »
Hi All,
Curious about how long after starting the machine, everyone's oil light blinks or stays on before building enough pressure to turn off.   I'm new to the machine but I feel like it takes a too long for the light to go out.  Now saying too long, I would guess it's 4-5 seconds.  I have recently changed the oil and I believe I have enough oil in the machine.  Although I will say that the new clean oil is hard to see on the thin wire dipstick.  you need just the right light.  I assume it will get easier as the oil darkens with use.

Thanks
John

Cold..as in it's sat for several weeks and in cold weather, my light goes out in less then two seconds as it has to refill the cooler but once warmed up or it's run in the last 6 hours it out at or when it starts. My oil almost doesn't change color and I don't change it for several years now...relax, I only put 2-300 miles per year on mine...and yes, even with the old-style plastic dip stick its not easy to read..but I do full it to the top of the full..and NOT screwed-in as the manual states. It's still there when I change it.

I would suggest putting an actual oil pressure gauge on it to see what it's really doing.

Mine is the same. It is certainly disconcerting.

It depends on the temps and how long the engine has sat.

In warm temps, (above 40 degrees Fahrenheit)  my oil symbol flashes for maybe 2 seconds, and then goes out. Completely normal.

The length of time increases as the temperature drops. In near zero temperatures it will flash, stop flash again, stop, many times before it stabilizes.

thanks for the replies. I will have to actually time it.  maybe 4-5 seconds is a wrong guess.  its been sitting for a week in temps of about 50 in the garage so it will give ne a baseline.

Put a gauge on it and read the actual pressure. It may be that the switch is marginal.

My 800ex the light flashes steady until pressure is good. On a cold start it will flash 6-7 times. 1-2 flashes when warm. My CForce bikes are a lot quicker to gain oil pressure. 3-4 cold maybe no flashing warm.
