Non powered steering rack
« on: October 13, 2016, 05:52:46 AM »
Is the bush/spacer on the drivers side of the rack supposed to be free floating http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd419/davidpaul1/pppppppppppp.jpg

Gust a guess..but I wouldn't think so. That leaves it open for anything to get in side.

I assume you have the boot that goes over that??  That bushing/spacer acts both as a scraper to not allow junk to get in there and also as a "bump stop" to not let the rack turn to far if I remember right.
I can imagine a world completely at peace.  A world where there are no weapons, no war, and no violence at all.  And I can imagine us taking over that world because they would never expect it.

Yes there's a boot over it, I was giving her a good service and noticed there was some movement in the rack so I pulled the boot back to have a look, added some extra grease at the same time, I'm happy there's nothing wrong with it now

I have the boot off of my steering rack to change a tie rod.  My bushing is free floating just like yours in the picture.  At first I thought there was a missing snap ring but, there is no groove in the housing for one.  I guess that's just how it is.  I'm also going to repack mine with a handful of grease too.
