No idle
« on: June 17, 2019, 09:31:04 AM »
I have a 2017 ZForce 800 Trail. Last weekend while trail riding, my ZForce had gotten rained on during the night-heavy rain too. The next day when we went to go riding, it will start but only if I give it some gas pedal. It will run fine as long as i give it some gas. There is no idle at all. Went thru the system check and the codes say low voltage to the TPS sensor. It has 4.8 vdc. Manual says it should be 5.0 vdc. I have checked everything I can think of-drained the gas, pulled all the connections apart and let it sit out in the sun-changed the fuel filter behind the air box-cleaned the filter. Tapped on the fuel pump. Any help on this would really be appreciated.

Did the dash switches get wet? They are not water proof..just somewhat resistant. Some have reported the kill switch, which sits sideways, is even more susceptible to water intrusion and some have failed. My CVT fan boost switch also sits sideways and one has already been lost to water. I would pull it, pop the rocker off and tap it on some paper to see if any water comes out. If so, dry it with air...maybe flush it with contact cleaner.

Yea I know the kill switch works. I can shut it off while running and nothing works if the switch is flipped while turning the key. I have replaced the plugs. Took the gas cap off in case the tank vent was plugged. The fuel pump works fine. Took the battery out and charged it on a trickle charger and cleaned all the cables-even tho everything read 12+ volts on my meter. I have driven this thing thru puddles before so getting rained on was not the only time I got it wet. Plus I wash it after every weekend trip. Thanks for the reply-keep throwing ideas at me. I'd like to try as much as I can before I have to give in and take it to the dealer. It runs fine as long as you keep some throttle in it. I just won't idle any longer.

Low voltage at the TPS could certainly cause idle issues. I would chase the power source back to the ECU until I found the 5 volt reference. If the ECU is not giving the 5 volts at the connector, then I'd pull all the connectors in that line and blow them dry, and then ohm them out looking for any partial shortings on that power line.  Finding none would implicate the ECU.

The wiring diagram is online (or at least it was).

Where is the ECU located on my 2017 Zforce 800? Is it mounted under some plastic?

Probably the same place as on the 2015s. This video shows it's location.

sounds like a symptom that could be related to water in the fuel. Check the large collar that holds the fuel pump down. Even though the seat covers it, water can still sit on top of it and if the fuel pump retainer ring is loose.... you end up with water contamination.

Also, water isn't supposed to be able to pass through an EFI fuel filter so..if it has enough water in it, it will be blocked.
