Need some brake advise
« on: January 04, 2018, 03:34:07 PM »
So...a while back I replaced my factory brake pads. The fronts were some cheapies from ebay but the rears were EBCs. The brakes worked much better and can actually stop using one foot on the peddle. However...now it seems the rear EBCs have started to squeak/squeal while not being depressed..ie just sitting against the disk under no pressure. I have cleaned and sanded the them and it lasts a ride or two but it comes right back. I assume I can put the same anti-squeal stuff on these pad backs as you do a car but..is there any other way? Any spray I can just apply once in a while? I know I can just use this but that means taking them off...again.

If you decide to use brake quiet, get the aerosol can (blue); it's much easier to use.

I've always used blue Permatex RTV when I felt the need to goo a pad.  Not sure if its right but, that's the way I swing.  Also, check your wheel bearings for excessive play.  A loosey, goosey, bearing will cause the disk to not run true.

Peace out.

Ok, I'll give the bearings a close look & wiggle when I get the calipers off.

I remember the noise battle with Can Am, that was the trade off noise vs stopping power. Can Am choose stopping power, a splash going thru the water & the noise returned.

One thing I found was to insure a good chamfer on all the edges.
ZF 800 LX Trail, stock for now.......not for long.

I usually do that before installation but don't remember doing that to the EBCs.. but I'll check them...and add a little more when off. Thanks
