Lost power, blew a fuse
« on: March 28, 2016, 10:01:18 AM »
So I'm at the farm Saturday working, ok more riding than working, but just piddling around mostly.  Was running up the main road thru the farm headed to front food plot and all of the sudden the radio dies, machine starts sputtering and bogging down then stalls.  So I tried to start it back up a couple of times then the whole dash died.  Of course I didn't have my tool box with me so only had some basic tools in the truck so couldn't really check much.  Pulled all the fuses and they all looked good, blades and main glass one on battery.  Long story short loaded it up got it home to a volt meter and got to work.  Main glass fuse on battery was bad, but conductor inside was not burned.  So not really sure what happened there.  Replaced it, fired it up, and everything seemed OK.  Seems like it might be running a little rougher now so think I'm going to take it to the shop tomorrow when they open to get it looked at.  Got a planned ride coming up in a couple of weeks so want to make sure all is well.
Wouldn't think just the stereo would have pulled that much power that it popped the fuse so just hoping it was a crappy fuse to start and just a loose connection on one end of the conductor.  So is there anything else you guys have seen or I should check before I take it to the dealer an hour away?

There has been some reports of the a fuse holder itself going bad as in the blades or connections loosing connection and showing they were getting hot because of that bad connection. Could be you have the same issue. Have any pics?

Didn't get any pics was in a rush as I was running late to get to a cookout that night.  I'm seeing a new blade fuse holder in the near future to replace that glass one though.

I changed the main fuse near the battery to a better waterproof one, the original one is not very good to say the least.

Yep, that is the exact one I have and will be replacing it with, once it's back from the shop at least.  Leave it factory as possible for this trip.  8)

Got the 800EX back from the shop last week and no problems found.  So hopefully just a fluke because of the crappy glass fuse and holder.  I ordered a new distribution block and some other stuff today so once that comes in I will swap the glass fuse holder for a blade, and run a new battery connection up to the front dash to add a distribution block for adding goodies to in the future.  This will keep the load off the main fuse and any other fuses I have tapped into currently.

Guys, where is this glass fuse at? I found two blade fuses in the compartment under the driver's seat..which were sealed and dry but no glass fuse. Is it by the battery?

Tucked in with the battery, mine was jammed in above the battery to be exact.  Could be part of the reason it blew getting bounced around and maybe smashed.  Going to run the new blade enclosure up along the chassis rails and not smash it in the battery box.

Well, apparently the 2015 53s don't have this fuse. They must have moved them to that rear compartment and are using the sealed sward fuse holders cause mine doesn't have any sign of one around the battery...and I removed the battery completely to see.

Hi, I have a force 800 EPS and I lost power going up hill. After messing around with relays I pulled at a red wire attached to a plastic fuse holder at the front of the battery compartment. Inside the fuse holder lays a clear glass fuse with a spare fuse underneath. All the dash kit up and had power again. After several times of losing power I squeezed the fuse clips at either end together to hold the fuse tighter and since then I've had no electric problems. Hope this helps😀

Under the driver's seat in the rear compartment. There will be one 30 amp main system fuse and if you have power steering, another 30 amp fuse for the PS motor drive power.
