Looking to buy a zforce 800 trail
« on: May 09, 2021, 07:30:27 PM »
Hey all. I’m looking at buying a zforce 800 trial. I have read some good reviews but wanted to know everyone’s experience with the longevity and reliability of these machines. Thanks

I have a 2015 and have had no real issues with it although there were a few small things like a-arm bushings and the intake has to be relocated for the amount of dust in my area. Pretty satisfied especially now that I have the Bandit shocks and springs. The newer ones have most of the bugs worked out and with good care and a splash of common sense, they will be a good vehicle for someone looking for a general trail vehicle. They are not X3s or even the Can Am trail 1000s, or anything in that class, but pretty good all around for the money....which is almost half of what the others cost with the same options. That are Chinese...but they are the better ones. :)

Okay great. Just something fun for the trails is what I’m looking for. With the air box modifications are the engines holding up to for lots of km?

My engine is holding up very well but only have a little less then 2000 miles on it...the key on these is..at least install a Unifilter with a quality foam filter oil treatment before ever taking delivery if possible...at least get it on before your first ride. The OE paper and foam filters let all 40 micron and smaller debris through destroying the life of the engine. Those that did not in dusty conditions never reached a thousand miles on average. Those that did are now well over 5000/8000 and climbing. I run two.. and a particle separator...yeah..its that dusty here. And when you get the chance relocate where it gets it air. Where the factory has it it gets not only all the crap the tires throw at the back cab plastics, but all the blistering heat the front cylinder's exhaust puts off. No engine likes that. The other thing to avoid is..never let them overheat. Normally they won't but cake the radiator or oil cooler up with mud or grass..it will and these just can't take that.

don't know about longevity yet ,I only have 250 miles on mine, but here are some things I have learned, aftermarket parts are limited, the zforce trail I have kicks mud up bad from the rear, I ended up putting fender kit on for ex model, that helped a lot. Also installed unifilter. I like the machine it does great off roading for my style of riding. add on so far have been rock sliders, front and rear windshield, brush guard , GMRS radio for communications, tool box in cargo area. In the future going to build a cargo rack above rear cargo area, add lower door inserts to doors.

'17 Trail 800, 9500 Km (5800 miles) only failure was a broken sway bar from metal fatigue. Dead reliable to my experience.
Yes, most important is to get the engine air intake location away from the back tire and motor compartment underneath the machine. As supplied it sucks up the very dust that you generate with your own tires, as well as whatever else is in the air. I have a simple duct tape and pizza box mod that's served me for near 3 years now. I'm sure that had that not been done as soon as it was, I'd have 10 pounds a pot of compression right now. Snorkeling the intake works too, and the Cadillac fix is a Particle Separator.

We just bought 2021 800 trail. We had been looking at them for a few years, we rented a Teryx last year when my brother in law came to visit. We had two of them and we had a lot of fun and spent a full day on them.

This year, we started to look at them in earnest. I had seen the CFMoto at a trade show and it looked pretty good. I read a bunch of reviews on them, both good and bad and most of the bad ones were either people not taking care of their machines, or just idiots in general. A few were actual justified bad reviews but of the dealers poor attitude or response.

We were looking at the RZR 850 trail and well, we couldn't find any, anywhere, or without a long wait. And, they were about $3-$6K more expensive, plus, you had to add things to get what the ZForce Trail 800 came with standard.

A week ago Saturday, when we decided to buy a unit, I pulled up all the Powersports dealers with in a 100 miles of me. Granted, I live in the mountains, halfway between Silverthorne and Steamboat so that limits the number of dealers in that range. I was looking to see who had what in stock.

I found a few RZR Pro XP 4 but they were around $25K. A Kawasaki Teryx 2 seater  for $20K and some Can-Am's for over $20K. And then I saw a dealer in Steamboat who had several Trail 800's for a little over $13K. And my wife and I were off to take a look.

We took a look at them, took a quick test drive, talked about price with the add-ons we wanted and stepped outside to talk about it. We were thinking about going up to another dealer in Craig CO, about 50 miles further out, but all they had at the time was a RXR XP 4 Premium at $25K.

Since we didn't know how much we would use zit, as we had never had one before, we decided to go with the Z8. And we are glad we did. We picked it up 2 days ago and have already put over 80 miles on it. We would have put more on it, but, my wife insisted that we get some projects done around the house. And, I had some medical tests scheduled this morning down in Denver.
Wow, these things are FUN!!!
