My new motor did that at first. Though it was just normal. It was a combination of the lifters were out of adjustment and the chain tensioner wasn't installed correctly (my bad). The majority of the noise I was hearing was the chain slapping around.

I haven't had this on my cfmoto yet, but since it is similar to the canam's, I have had timing chain noise that sounds like what your describing. A little noise is normal but too much is a sign of problems.

It's not loud per say, just sounds like solid lifters from back in the day, I really think it's just lifter noise, but I don't know just how much is normal.
Emerson is the valves adjustable on these engines, which is what it sounds like ?

Well, the lifters are , not the valves. Best thing to do is carefully remove the chain tensioner and check the spring. If it wasnt installed right, the long spring will be a mess. Its self adjusting, so if it wasnt installed right, the spring kinks and the tensioner doesnt move. You'll have slight ticking, but nothing that should be highly noticeable from the cab. If it gets louder when you rev, its an issue. If the chain tensioner is fine then check the lifters.

It's also pretty easy to check the tappets/ lash settings. Just do it cold and we have a manual free here to help. If you have a loose one and it's too loose, it can and will damage the adjuster so might give them a look soon.

I'm not sure if it's even a problem, I've noticed it since new, do any of you hear any ticking like the sound of lifters ?  It's not loud at all, but you can hear it.

Mine started making an occasional ticking sound but its not tappets...its something else. I did set my valves at about 300 miles and all were at the wide side of their range except one, and it was under the minimum. That usually means a soft valve or seat so I need to watch it for a while.

You might just have one a little loose. Can you shot a quick video and let us hear it?

Its not out of the ordinary to have to adjust the lifters when new. Everything is new, and once the motor is broken in things tend to "loosen" up so to speak. Theres nothing wrong with checking to make sure. Its better to check now then have to have her sent in to the dealer for major work.

I'm having the same issue. Did you have any luck finding out what it was. Or if it's normal?

Obviously there are no lifters in these but too much valve lash (loosely adjusted valves) will "tick" somewhat line a weak or stuck lifter. Check all the valves by the book dead cold. This should be done after the first 500 miles then at least checked every 1000 to 1500 miles there after unless there is an issue with service or air filters. Some have had issues with cam chains, guides and tensioners though.
