How to remove the instrument panel
« on: July 17, 2019, 02:09:31 PM »
I'm installing a street legal kit on my 800 trail. How do you remove the instrument panel? I removed the two screws at the bottom but the panel won't pull out.

I once wondered that myself cause I too removed those two but it still had something else holding it in. I think..not 100% sure though...that someone said there are two more on the back side that have to come out. I was thinking that if one took out the storage tray one could get to most everything on the back side of the dash. Might take a look while waiting for someone that actually done it to chime in.

My memory is waning on this but I believe you've got to get underneath it (remove bottom cover) and there are some screws.

What is a street legal kit, and why does the instrument panel have to come out to install it?

If you're just adding some switches, you can remove the 2 screws on the front  and then 2 10mm bolts underneath it and swing that whole cover down enough to access the switches.  I just recently rearranged my switches and added a light bar switch and this is how I did it.  Hardest part was finding a comfy way to lay in there to see anything but I just used a bunch of cardboard with the seat out.

Thanks all, two bolts underneath did the job. Utah passed a law this year that you can street legalize a ATV or UTV and ride on streets and highways. CF-Moto 800 comes from the factory with all the wiring in place just buy the kit its plug and play. Very easy and looks sharp.

Glad that worked for ya!  I wish they were road legal around here, although we don't usually have any problems running down the road a bit to get to trails as long as we aren't being dumb.  I'm in Canada and our machines all come with the lights preinstalled and I love having them, I have to drive at least some distance onroad to get anywhere and I never get tired of using the signals.  Makes people look twice too when they see them on a side by side.  They've also come in handy when running with other bikes, for example when driving down the road there have been times where I see cars coming in my mirrors and flip my blinker on to pull over to let them pass, and it lets the guys behind me know to pull over also.  Love using the horn too, I beep at almost everyone I see on the trails!  ;D

That's really cool.  We went to South Dakota last month and they are legal there as well.  Out of staters can get a temporary pass and it was pretty cool being able to just cruise the Zforce into town like anybody else.  Illinois is probably light years away from that kind of thinking. >:(
