Today as I was getting ready to put my airbox back on I decided to clean the buildup off the throttle body butterfly that was left from running the factory paper filters for the first part of it's life. This is dust that gets through those filters. As I shined the light in the track I noticed a large amount of what looked like dirt buildup in the crossover tube. Hoping it was just discolored but just to be safe I went a head and removed the throttle body assembly. Sure enough, everything I saw was a layer of fine dust & dirt that had gotten through the stock filters and plastered itself on the back wall of the crossover. What didn't was run through the cylinders. I wonder just how much life they took from my engine!

Rigged a small fuel line on my shop vacuum and cleared it, then wiped it down with a clean shop towel and lacquer thinner, then put it all back together.

If you get the chance to check yours out..it's worth doing IMO. Especially if you ever ran the stock paper/fiber air filter.

Another thing I noticed and fixed today was that what I thought was the "mass air flow sensor"..but I only see the "AIR INTAKE TEMP. & PRESSURE SENSOR" Listed in the parts diagram, was coated with oil. The only place I think it can get that is from the airfilter. I always thought I followed my own instructions on oiling these...ie "not over oiling and always letting them dry completely before installing" but I must have pressed it too fast once. Anyway I am sure having a coating of oil or anything on it will gave an effect on the reading the ECU gets from it so I cleaned it with some Mass airflow sensor cleaner and now it idles much smoother and seems to have better throttle response. The exhaust also smells a hair richer too which is good as my plugs were burning bright white and needed some richening.

It's located right on top of the crossover, one 8mm headed bolt and it has an o-ring so just slide it out, clean it and replace it.  Here's a vid on doing one in a car..kinda the same thing.

I had the same issue. I pulled the whole assembly out and cleaned everything including the sensors and butterfly as well. While I had the y pipe out I polished the inside and removed all the poor castings. Smothed everythimg out. After I put it back together I had similar effects on idle. The polished pipe has had a noticeable improvement on the throttle response. Itll get up and scoot pretty good.

Noticed it was pretty rough back in there. Probably why all the crap collected on it...lol  Maybe next time I'll pull it off and polish it too.

I didn't like seeing so much poor casting and over casting at a critical intake point. I did a snorkel into my cab and a uni filter for increased flow and then hits those nasty castings and messes messes it all up.
