factory heat shields
« on: May 10, 2021, 11:17:21 AM »
Ok so the factory heat shield thats mounted on the rear panel of the cab has fallen off and was laying on top of my engine. First, obviously thats an issue for heat in the engine an potentially a bigger fire hazard issue right. Secondly how much do I actually care thats its not there other than feeling the heat in the cab more. I'm thinking this could be a problem as the exhaust is so close to the plastic panel. Anyone else have this happen? My dealer will take care of it under warranty but I'm wondering if that'll just fall on the engine in 400 miles also.

The only heat shielding my 2015 has back there is a U-shaped piece of tin for the exhaust pipe. It has....or had..nothing on the cab back plastics. I have installed some when I had it off and it did help the heat a little. I think you have to use common sense and if there is plastic close to a high-heat source....better protect it. Otherwise I found using the combination heat shield and sound deadener back there did help in both areas...sound and heat...mostly sound.

Pretty much what I was expecting to hear, thanks. The dealer is a big a huge deal over it telling me not to operate it at all. The shield over the pipe is intact. Its just the silver mat piece that is "stuck" on the backside of the plastic.
