Exhaust Leak
« on: September 11, 2022, 07:45:21 PM »
New week of riding new issue.  rode 160+ miles on Saturday.  Started noticing a tik tik tik.  Hoped it was not valve related as I was walking into the saloon for lunch.  ran through quite a bit of standing water on the trials as it had rained quite a bit 2 days prior to our ride.  I prefer that tot he dust.  It was pretty caked with dirt/light mud so I could not see any obvious problems.  I had no Choice but to run I was alone with the wife and not even the neighbors were at their cabins this weekend.  As I kept riding I was noticing it was getting louder in the cab  Became pretty evident it was exhaust leaking but I was still getting pretty good flow from the tail pipe.  It began to back rap if I was on the gas and off for a corner and coasting.  This morning I power washed it and started checking it out.  The 2nd pipe that connects tot he rear cylinder head pipe is loose and the springs are moving. I can feel exhaust leaking from around the donut.  I had my wife hold some RPM and then suddenly let off and it's popping through that gap.   Not all the time but it's happening.  SHould I replace all the donuts and springs at 1 time?  I see they are super expensive through CFmoto and out of stock  shipping is way too much from Morch.  where are people finding these and is this a real issue if they are out of stock?

The CFM springs are junk. Buy no more of them...otherwise you will go through this again. Made from the soft, cheap metal so as soon as they get hot enough or hot for long enough, they stretch and loose their tension....and the almost 4psi backpressure at WOT doesn't help things at all There is a good chance that by now the donut is damaged but pull it out and give it a good look over. If it is still good on the sealing surfaces, use it. I went with moose springs..not cheap at all..but they will never do this to you. The correct size is important. Thy must not be stretched much more then 20% of their starting length so butt it all together and measure between the loops in millimeters, then take 20% out of that and order the springs that are as close to that as possible. If the donut is OK, your problems are over...permanently.

AS USUAL, GREAT INFO!  If the donut is damaged are you able to order them aftermarket?

I don't think so. And the Chinese have made many things they copied an odd size to get around legal issues and force people to get most things from them.

Very unfortunate, they are out of stock.  I did find one on EBAY but of course it's about a month until it's delivered.  Hopefully I can get the better springs on and spin the insert a little and get a good enough seal.  I will also call the local dealer to see if they happen to have on in stock.
