Engine blown
« on: November 15, 2024, 08:03:32 AM »
I have a 2022 Zforce 800 with 2400 miles on it. The engine pretty much shrapneled and pretty much junk. The dealer said it was related to the air filter and dirt. I had replaced the stock filter with a better brand and was pretty good about keeping things clean.
That being said. My plan is to purchase new motor and replace, pretty unhappy about this being I only drove this thing for 8 months.
Going forward I would like to upgrade the air filtration system to something more easily accessible and better. Anyone else do this?
Thanks for any advice.

Sorry to hear of another engine gone from particle ingestion. All the dry filters air filters tested except Donaldson allowed unacceptable levels of trash to get through. There are likely others that are also good filters, just not tested on CFMs. All the foam filters-both single and dual stage except Unifilter with a quality foam filter treatment also allowed unacceptable levels of trash to get through. It is for this reason I run two Unifilters on mine- One oversized one in the air box that I service once a year..(mostly because it just needs fresh oiling)- and one standard sized one on an inline can on one of two stacks outside which is easy to get to for servicing...and is serviced well before necessary. I also run a Donaldson TopSpin prefilter which clears about 75% of dust particles on intake which has tripled my filter service range. I intended to finish my system with an S&B particle separator but just haven't done that yet. I also have a dry-type filter in the intike can for the CVT intake which has stopped the wear on my belt and other clutch parts from all the trash being pumped through it. The Donaldson is large enough to provide air to it as well. My engine has about 2200 miles now and is still like brand new. On side benefit is the oil stays cleaner longer as well. I change my oil every 700-1000 miles and it is almost as clean and clear coming out as it was going in. So yeah, I believe in clean, cool air for any engine. If I had it to do over again knowing what I do now, I would still run two of the best filters but I would run a 3" flex intake duct to the front of the machine and mount the first filter under the front plastics...because through all my evolution on this one thing stands out as fact- the entire rear third of these machines are always in an unacceptable dust particle cloud for engine air intake. There is far less up front even when you have people in front of you. Good luck with yours. Here's a pic of mine as it is right now:

By the way, there are only three foam filter treatments that we recommend for use on the Unifilters...and none are even Unifilters own oil treatment. They are Bel-Ray, then the two Maxima's which are FFT and Fab-1. I use the Fab-1. Even these have to have the excess removed from the inside surface with paper towel as some atomize-ation plants some onto the temp/airflow sensors if the access isn't removed. Not a big deal, just means you will have to clean them from time to time.
