Easy access battery jumper cable set up
« on: August 14, 2018, 09:22:11 PM »
Here is what I came up with to make jump starting WAY easier than fighting with that damn battery cover and trying to fit jumper cables into a ridiculously tight space (without sparks) from accidentally touching the frame. It is a quick connect set up that allows me to "get jumped" or "jump" someone else quickly, easily and without tools OR sparks! A real "Plug and play" type set up...lol

I made the quick connect jumper cables from:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000KK9SLW/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074J5DS33/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I then wired a "quick disconnect" connector with some 6 gauge wire to the battery and routed it up into the bed through one of the tie down holes. The connectors have rubber caps/boots to prevent water and dirt from getting into the connector while not in use. BTW- I "flood soldered" the terminals which is easy to do and more secure than trying to crimp large cables. The jumper cables still work as a normal set (if you need to share them OR use them on other vehicles) but allow you to hook up the other vehicle first(avoiding sparks) and then simply plug into the connector that is hard wired to the vehicle when needed to "jump or be jumped"

Looks very nice. I haven't had mine very long but are these Z800 known for dead batteries?

Yes and no....Using the winch is one way of draining the battery and having aftermarket lights/accessories  that exceed 10amps of total draw can drain the battery as well. I have 5 different led lights set up on my machine, and have plans to add a stereo as well, so I am pushing the limits of the charging system! Dead batteries happen....and when they happen on one of these machines you will see what a PITA it is to try to jump start them (the cover alone will teach you how to cuss if you want to remove it especially with oversized tires) and there is maybe 1.5 inches of space to try to clamp jumper cables onto the battery without touching the metal frame!

Good to know. I will be adding lights front and rear and be using it to plow snow this winter. I will have to watch the battery when plowing with the lights on and using the winch for the plow.
