Drive shaft has slack
« on: May 19, 2016, 12:11:44 PM »
hello all
i have notice that the drive shaft the one that you can reach from the driver sit has a slack, and recently i had some weird noises and i think it could be the case.... moreover there is some shaft rubber that has die i dont know what its protecting but its just torn
has anyone ever took the shaft out? how hard is it?
what can cause the slack? is there any bearings i can replace there?
thx!

Mine has always had play in the bearing area and the yoke splines. It shouldn't have it...but it does. Under heavy load I feel it off-center rotating. I have not got a fix for it ...yet but intend to look into it soon.

If you are referring to the front drive shaft, there is too much clearance between the telescoping  mating spline section. I covered this in the z6 issues tread. I tried very heavy grease and it worked for a short time but no real fix. Cfmoto needs to tighten the tolerance on the parts for a tighter fit and add a seal to keep dirt out. On the z6 I had to slit a peice of plastic to pull it out, but it gets covered up when reassembled so no big deal.

Well that sucks. I was thinking about getting complete new parts or driveline but if they are all like that it would be a waste of money. I do have a drive line company here that builds custom drivelines...wonder how hard they would laugh if I took it to them and asked them to build a new one complete..Hmm.

the middle bearing is dead.. making bad bad noises.
now i dont know if i need to replace the drive shaft bearing as well since the vibration in that speed killing everything!
i suggest all of you out there to check it since its doing alot of damage!
i will try to get the bearings out and maybe try to get high quality ones...

thewind60, Are you taking about the rear drive shaft carrier bearing? I think it was brought up here before but if you find a good fix please post a how to write up.

NMK, I won't go that far yet. I don't think it is anything more than annoying  at this point. They might update the part and it should be cheaper than a custom made.

I once took up the slop in a driveshaft with some big thick O rings and lots of grease to get them in. They did chew out eventually but lasted a while.

today i went to bearing shop and find the same bearing just from SKF and replace it... on the way i order the dust boot for the shaft and now the bearing feel amazing!
just FYI you will need a very good press in order to take the bearings out... and watch out to the direction you press it...
will update ones i will assemble everything..

I think he is talking about a bearing carrier for the rear shaft. Can't seem to find it in the parts drawing.

Good to hear. I checked mine the other day because of your troubles and that it felt looser then it was months ago.. but its still about the same...very loose on the splines but the bearing is still tight. I have a driveline company here and I just might take the thing to them and have a new one built from scratch...if they don't laugh too hard at me...lol
