CVT filter

MNK. I didn’t want to hi jack somebody else thread. Did you say there is a filter on the cvt behind the grill, behind the seat? If so mine didn’t come with one. I’ve had that grill off just to see what was in there. Maybe I didn’t look deep enough.

Its kind of ovel and sets down into it a ways where the head connects to the pipe. Should be able to see it. It's like a piece of course foam material. Any very course foam filter will work if it's missing. Don't oil it as the CVT pulls 10+-times the air through it in an hours then the engine does and that little POS will plug-up very quickly. It only stops the big chunks of stuff.

Looking them up it looks like they quit using them after 2017. They don't even have the frame retainer for it in the plumbing so..no worries..I guess Ponytail.

Here's all up to 2017:

And 2018 +

No filter

I talked to my dealer and he told me to not filter the CVT.  He said it doesn't need it and that the dust that enters discharges just as fast and that the dust does not effect clutch operation at all.  Hard to believe that it has no effect, but that's all I have to go on.

If you ride where there is little dust..sure. But I can attest to the fact that it gets in and some doesn't exit. In time it grinds away on the rollers/sliders and the ground power packs in to their guides restricting their movement and wears the helix ramps and pads down pretty quickly. Accelerates the wear on the belt too. So, I invite anyone who thinks the dust is harmless to ride in the southwest. Yeah..running a filter in these conditions is a royal PITA but...my CVT is lasting like never before. Soon..I'll be mounting a particle separator and that..will end the PITA. :)

I believe you NMK.  Seemed a bit far fetched to say that there is no effect on the clutch from dust in the 2019's.  My intention is to take a look and filter where I can without going to the extreme, because around here rides are not overly dusty.  Our rides, so far, have been slow and over rocky roads.  Some dust, of course, but not like some pictures I've seen.  With that said, we will be in the S.W. (Yuma) this winter for a couple of months and I'll probably fine out a little more about real dust.
