So I purchased a Super Atv poly rear window. Every picture I looked at made it seem like it would fit my 2021 Z800 trail. Ordered the window. When it arrived and I went to install it the top holes fall directly inline with the seatbelt bracket that is welded to the cage. I was at work when I ordered it so was going off of pics from the internet of my model. All of the pics showed the seatbelt bracket as being below the top of the shoulder bar. Mine is above it. I then searched again and found pictures of the 800 being sold in Belgium that had the seatbelt bracket in the same location as mine. I can return the window but will cost a lot so I figure I'll just drill my own holes so I can connect it above the bracket. Anyone have any luck drilling poly? I've watched some vids and most people use step bits. Of course then there are other ones that say don't use a step bit. Lol... Also why would Cfmoto change where they mount the seatbelt. Seems like a strange thing to do or if it's a country thing then why would I have a European machine in Canada.🤔

I have never figured out why things are or need to be different in different countries but...they are. Seems like they could come to a standard and do the same everywhere. Any way I have drilled lots of holes in poly. The key is start and stay way from the edge as far as you can or the bracket will allow. Step up using very sharp and cool bits..at least two size steps. And provide direct support under the hole..like set the area flat on a 2x4 or something that won't allow the poly to flex while drilling..and very light or no pressure..don't let it take large cuts and twist-in..almost hold back on the drill if you must. And do this at a comfortable temperature not cold as the poly will be more likely to crack at low temps. Good luck.

Thanks NMK. I bought a brand new step bit set that say it can be used for plastic. I'll drill it in my basement instead of my cold building , and allow the poly to get to room temp before trying.

Never tried it with a step bit. Should be OK as ling as it doesn't heat-up the poly. Might pause between steps..just thinking out loud.

Poly doesn't like sharp edges and to prevent cracking I usually put a small chamfer with a larger bit on the holes once they are drilled, you can also file the chamfer if need be.

Yeah..that's a good idea. Both sides of the hole. Just a hair.

The step bit worked great. Can't tell that it's not the factory hole. Placed a small piece of 2x4 behind it and used the long skinny step bit. Used hardly any pressure and used a spray bottle off water to keep it cool.
