Brake Rotor Size

Can anyone tell me what the diameter of the brake rotor is on the Z 800?  Google turned up nothing.  Im curious since the braking is the weak point on these machines if a larger rotor could be found and brackets to move the caliper out (at least on the front).  This would increase the leverage for the brakes making them stronger.  There seemed to be room to spare in the wheel to make this work also.
I can imagine a world completely at peace.  A world where there are no weapons, no war, and no violence at all.  And I can imagine us taking over that world because they would never expect it.

Maybe a different brand of pads might help.  I'm upgrading my rears to EBC.  It would probably be more cost effective to change pads or look at changing the pivot point on the master cylinder to provide better braking action than to refit rotors and calipers.  What about installing a proportioning valve to help balance the system a little better?

 I agree upgrading pads will help but from what i have read its still not what a fast machine should have for brakes.  From what i have seen it purely is a " not enough leverage as the wheels issue".  Not that there isnt enough pressure.  It just seems like they under sized the brakes for what the machine can do.  The options are larger calipers which requires A TON of work to fit.  Or larger rotors which is far less work. 

If I could find the size of the rotor and then find a replacement off of some other already made machine (maybe have to redrill the mounting holes) then space the caliper out the same distance that really  wouldnt be THAT big of a deal.

Also have you found a place to buy the EBC rear pads?  I looked but they seem to be hard to find.

I installed new aftermarket pads up front. That helped a lot. Then I got the air out of the system...most of it was in the front. That really helped. Now they are probably 3/4s of what my friend's Polaris 800's are and that will do me for now.  They have dual-piston calipers but quite small..I was thinking they have the wrong master/slave ratio as in too small of a master cylinder. Now with the air out the proportioning between the front and rear seems correct, just either not enough master pressure for the input or the caliper piston size is too small. Seems a master cylinder change would be the easiest. I found some larger pistoned masters on ebay that should fit with little modification. Should almost double the pressure to the calipers. Hopefully they can handle additional pressure....;)  I might try that next if I run out of projects. But for now, mine are acceptable.

I think what NMK said may yield results that are acceptable Chuddly. My preferred brake fluid is Maxima Super Hi Temp, it does make a difference from brand to brand. I have tried different fluids, and back to back flushes yield best results using the Maxima super Hi Temp

I am sure you could provide rotor specs to EBC or Outlaw Racing Products and they probably already have a slightly larger rotor on the shelf with that bolt pattern. Making caliper relocation brackets shouldnt be too hard for a fella such as yourself.

If you provide a machine drawing to a fella named Fab Kevin (a well known chopper guy) he may agree to make em for you. He may want a minimum order/run to do this.

I plan on doing the above also....but if you put big tires on or something like that then you just took all your braking power away.   Not that I plan on doing that but I do run machines to their limit so brakes going out would be bad LOL

After 2 days of searching I was finally able to locate a pair of EBC FA651X pads for the rear of my Z8.  A local dealer provided me with a super secret EBC tech support number.  I ended up talking with EBC who then referred me to a distributor where I was finally able to order the pads.  The reason the pads are so hard to find is because they are European pads.  They are only available in the Carbon X compound at this time.  The distributor is www.perfectbrakes.com.  They were very knowledgeable and helpful.  A failing wheel bearing (1000 miles) cause my pads to wear prematurely.
