Almost pulled the trigger
« on: December 23, 2017, 07:33:01 PM »
Looked at a used 2015 today. The second owner has put about 250 of the 1150 total miles on it. I have no info from 1st owner. I took a compression tester but was unable to remove the plugs. There was no way to get a socket on the plug down in the recessed area it’s in. I did pull the air filter and found black soot like residue in the intake. The zforce looked to be well cared for and seemed tight. I drove it around some and didn’t hear any popping from the axles on tight turns. The engine started and ran with no issues. No oil or coolant leaks.
I didn’t pull the trigger on it because I couldn’t do a compression check. Is the sooty material significant? How do you guys remove the plugs? Should it have a toolkit with a spark plug tool that will fit in that plug well it sits in?

I haven't had any issues pulling the plugs. I just blow the wells out with air, then grab just a deep socket..5/8s I think, and pop them out. Shouldn't be anything in the intake track. Black soot..if that's what it was (assuming it wasn't coal dust from riding in coal country) may be an indication of leaking intake valves..may just need adjusting. What filter did it have on it?

It has the oem type filter with foam over pleated paper. I knew that already. That’s why I really wanted the compression check.
