Adding power steering
« on: March 16, 2024, 07:55:15 PM »
I have a 2014 zforce 800ex without eps. For many years I wanted to add eps to my machine but haven't and now it's time I stop putting it off and do it. My question is that I found a complete setup on ebay with part #'s listed as the #' s from factory.will this unit bolt right in and wire it up? Or do I have to replace the whole steering rack like I have read other members did when using the super atv universal eps?

If you are using all the factory pieces for a 2014-2017 it should bolt in using the existing rack as in those days it was an add-on. However there is two things that may have to be addressed. One- and I am not 100% sure of this one but in 2014 the wiring harness may not have included all the circuits/wiring for the unit and it's control module and fused motor power supply..but it may. Two- and I am fairly sure about this one-all non EPS units came with a 350 watt stator and rectifier where all that have EPS had the 500 watt system. You may find that the charging system won't keep up with the battery's load with the EPS. It will pull as much as 20 amps at max assist. Just means you will need the other stator and rectifier/regulator.

For the wiring look in the rear floor compartment. Yours may or may not have the main fuse in it like they do in 2015 but if so there should also be another empty fuse holder for the EPS motor power. If it does, then the rest is likely there.

Is the splined nub on the rack and pinion that the steering rag joint bolts on to the same size for both the stock Z8 and stock rzr 800?

I can't say for sure but I know people were replacing bad CFM racks with ones for the RzR 800 and all they said was that the mounting holes were slightly off and that they had to so something with the tie rods as the ones for the RzR didn't work. No one mentioned the input shaft size or spline was an issue.

10-4. Thank you for the information I appreciate you. Adding power steering to this 2014 shouldn't be this hard, I just think I'm over thinking for making a mounting bracket to secure the EPS motor. I ordered a EPS bracket for a 2015  and 2 of the 3 bolt holes line up but it just looks like they changed the steering wheel support from 14 to 15?

Far as I know the 14-17 Zs had no base changes..other then in 17 (I think...maybe 18) PS was no longer an option but standard equipment with a model or not..meaning you couldn't easily add one to one that didn't have it. And in 16 I think they added a plastic cover over the steering stem and parts...which might and caused a bracket and mount change....hmm. I have some pics of my 15's PS if that will help.

Well I just ordered the super atv power steering kit for a rzr 800. Wish me luck, I hope it all fits and bolts in with ease. I'll post some updates within the next couple of weeks
