Accelerator Sticking
« on: January 03, 2017, 02:09:01 PM »
I just bought a used 2014 800 zforce ex, it has only 300 miles on it and more than half of that was done by plowing. I have only used it about 5 times mostly on roads and trails in 6-12" snow and 3 of those times the accelerator gets stuck after about 10 minutes of riding. You can still press the gas peddle like normal, but it doesn't do anything and it just continues to accelerate. Turning it off and on doesn't fix the problem. I've had to tow it back to my house. It's been cold here, around 0-10 degrees fahrenheit, and after putting it back in my heated garage it will work fine again. The guy says he will take it back, but he said he has not seen that before. I wanted to check here before giving it back to him, because I really like the machine and want to keep it if there is a fix. Has anyone had this happen before? Thanks.

I had the same thing happen on my Rhino i used to have.  Its water in the throttle cable.  It starts to slush/freeze up in there and holds the throttle open. You can replace the cable or force a TON of WD40 through it and try to get it out that way.
I can imagine a world completely at peace.  A world where there are no weapons, no war, and no violence at all.  And I can imagine us taking over that world because they would never expect it.

I'm a firm believer in the cable-luber. Its a little messy but it's the best way to clear moisture from cables and lube them completely. I bought one of these many years ago and still have the first can of lube. Been a good purchase as I have yet to replace any cable on any machine I've used it on.

I will order some of the cable-lube tonight as well as try the WD40 in the mean time. I really appreciate your advice. I'll let you know how things go. Thank you very much!

The cable lube block is the way to go. It works great. wd-40 will get the water out, but it drys out so make sure you get good oil in there later. Clean up the linkage around the pedal and throttle also to be safe.

These guys are spot on, nothing wrong with the machine, some moisture in the cable is the "nature of the beast" and considered maintenence. +1 on the motion pro cable luber, bi-weekly ritual for the clutch cable back in my motocross days.

Throttle cable stuck wide open.
Any suggestions on getting it free? Never would have thought about moisture getting into a pretty sealed cable.

They aren't that sealed. Moisture usually gets in at the ends. I strongly suggest getting in somewhere to thaw and use a cable luber on one end which is a positive way to force lube all the way through it and.. force moisture out the other end. It also make cables last...almost forever. I have had one of these kits for well over 10 years now and still have about a 1/3 of a can left. A little messy sometimes but it does work. Which reminds me..it's time to do mine :)

Same thing happens to me every year.  Don't go jumping on the pedal and break the cable like I did.  It only takes about 10 minutes to change.
